WILINSKI DRAWS FIRST BLOOD AT OUTAGAMIE – REGIONAL DIRT FEATURE TOTALS & MORE
Posted on: Monday May 6, 2024
For those who had fears that Luxy Raceway would take cars away from Outagamie Speedway in Seymour with their switch back to Friday nights you can sleep well tonight.
Last Friday was the first night the two went head-to-head and Outagamie had a 132 car show in five divisions. There were enough cars to host a B main in the IMCA stock cars and a pair of B mains in the IMCA northern sportmod division.
This Friday, May 10 the late models will make the first of six appearances at Outagamie. All of the tracks regular classes will remain in action. The hammer drops at 6:30 p.m. Yours truly will be on the mic at Seymour.
As for Luxemburg it was the first time in five years the racing at the Kewaunee County Fairgrounds returned to it’s longtime traditional Friday nights. 78 cars were in attendance in the non-sanctioned, five division show. 141 Speedway’s track prep extraordinaire Merle Lisowe lent a hand in the track prep department for their opening night. And they had the true G.O.A.T. of local motorsports announcing Tom Wagner on the call. Can’t go wrong there!
Rain washed out both programs at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek and Plymouth Dirt Track, which was supposed to host the first of it’s Super Six late model series.
BY THE NUMBERS – Nine was the number of late models in attendance for the races at Shawano Speedway last Saturday night. I’m not sure I can even remember the last time that division ever fielded single digit car counts. 13 was the number of late models in attendance at Gravity Park USA. 89 is the car number of late model winner Brad “JJ” Mueller. Three is the number of stock car feature wins Chilton’s Mitch Meier has picked up on Friday nights at Gravity Park USA so far in ’24. 36 is the number of Midwest Tour career wins earned by NASCAR truck racer Ty Majeski following his victory in the Joe Shear Classic 200 at Madison International Speedway Sunday. In addition to the $15,000 winners check, Majeski also picked up the $3,600 bounty from World Wide Technology Raceway that was placed upon him.
BEST OF SHOW – The Hill Raceway in Sturgeon Bay doled out ‘best of show’ awards in multiple divisions during their car show/test and tune over the weekend. Winners included Chris Pigeon (modified), Josh Tuttle (stock car), Matt Hanson (street stock), Gary Henkel (sportmod) and Caden and Braydon LeMieux also copping best of show awards.
The season opening race for The Hill kicks off Saturday, May 18 at 6 pm. @ John Miles Park in Sturgeon Bay.
TOO TOUGH TO TAME – The first race of the four race ‘Too Tough To Tame’ stock car series presented by Seubert Calf Ranches will take place at Shawano Speedway May 11.
The feature races all payout a minimum of $1,200 to win with multiple cash bonuses and a dash point fund to boot. The nights will feature 6 X 6 dash for cash races, long haul bonuses and much more.
A tip of the cap goes out to Mike Hammond and Ed Bertram for getting this deal up and running. Racing starts at 6 p.m.
KARTING KORNER – Wet weather canceled a planned practice session last weekend at Little Buckaroo Jr. Motorsports Park in Cecil. The season opening night of racing kicks off Friday, May 10 at 7 p.m. with Club 117/Witt Ford/Village Companies night. You can check the track’s Facebook page for additional information.
GSR Kartway in Clintonville will kick off it’s 2024 season on Wednesday, May 15. The track hosts kart and lawn mower races weekly. You can check out the latest information on GSR by visiting their website gsrkartway.com.
PAVEMENT PONDERINGS – Former WIR champion Casey Johnson of Edgerton placed fourth in the Joe Shear Classic while Riley Stenjem finished 14th driving for the Fox Valley-based Chase Motorsports team.
Appleton’s Jeff Van Oudenhoven finished 24th. The next Midwest Tour event will be the ‘Salute the Troops 100’ at Jefferson (WI) Speedway Saturday, May 25.
Eugene Gregorich III netted a fifth place finish at the Midwest Truck Series event at MIS Sunday. Gregorich also netted fast time earlier in the day.
Appleton racers Cody Vander Loop and Brandon Reichenberger placed eighth and ninth, respectively.
The race was won by Jeff Holtz.
ITS TUNDRA TIME – The TUNDRA super late model series will usher in the 2024 oval track racing season Saturday, May 11 for the “Battle for The Bear” 75 lap feature. The race will pay $3,500 to the winner. Defending series champions Dalton Zehr and John Beale will defend their series crown. The defending race winner is also the defending Fox River Racing Club (FRRC) champion Sawyer Effertz of Darboy. Joining the TUNDRA super lates are the Mid-American racing series, WIR ¼ mile late models, Wisconsin sport trucks and figure 8’s. Time trials are set for 12:30 with the first green flag flying at 2 p.m.
