WHO IS YOUR COMPETITION OFF THE TRACK? by Joe Verdegan

(JANUARY, 2025 MONTHLY MOTORSPORTS MARKETING MAIL TIP)

While at first glance the headline of this monthly tip may seem odd but think about your marketing efforts and what you’re trying to accomplish with your motorsports program.

You’re in what we like to call the ‘great money hunt.’ Chasing after sponsorship dollars is a lot of work. So it’s important when you put your sponsorship decks together to know what your competition is up to.

I’m not talking about your on-track foes. I mean the other potential advertising avenues you are pursuing. Think like a business owner when doing this. Despite this explosion of social media where there is the impression that you can ‘advertise’ for FREE, truth is there are still multiple outlets your going up against.

Billboard ads. Television ads. Online, streaming ads. Radio ads. Newspaper ads (albeit not nearly as effective as they once were but small towns still have them). This is essentially your ‘competition’ when it comes to chasing down those marketing dollars. In motorsports, I always encourage my clients to compare what you are offering in terms of marketing dollars and compare the worth of signing on to your team versus six months of billboard or radio ads, for example.

Same goes for ads in the other traditional and non-traditional venues. We always tout that with motorsports marketing we serve up a ‘bigger-bang-for-your-buck.’ So by all means show those cost comparisons in your sponsorship deck. Nowadays more than ever, businesses HAVE to see a true ROI (Return On Investment) before they’ll commit to giving you one nickel. So do a little research, make a few phone calls and get some ad rates you can compare your operation to.

We do assist race teams with putting together sponsorship decks which are a critical tool in the great money hunt. Simply drop me an email at jverdegan2@gmail.com and let’s get those conversations started.
