WHITMAN, MROCZKOWSKI, HARSBARGER, DIEFENTHALER & REESE ALL 141 WINNERS JULY 12
(FRANCIS CREEK, WI) JULY 12 – Former track champion Johnny Whitman of Suamico whisked past Cole Czarneski for the lead on lap 19 and cruised to victory in the IMCA modified feature at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek Saturday.
In other action, the “Mayor of Krakow” Josh Mroczkowski grabbed the lead on lap 17 and fought off a stiff challenge from Czarneski to win the $1,000 top prize in the IMCA stock car feature. Other feature winners included Fond Du Lac’s Brady Harshbarger (IMCA northern sportmod), Hortonville’s Trey Van Straten (street stock) and Chilton’s James Reese, who swept action in the IMCA sport compacts winning both his heat and feature wins.
Whitman started the 25 lap IMCA modified feature third, behind polesitter R.M. Van Pay. Czarneski charged into the lead at the drop of the green with Whitman stalking Czarneski as the laps clicked off. Czarneski got bottled up with lapped traffic around lap 16, which allowed Whitman to close the gap. Whitman flew past Czarneski on lap 19. Two circuits later, the lead quartet of cars tangled with a lapped car. Among those lead cars were Whitman, Czarneski and Van Pay. Due to track procedures, the top running cars got their spots back on the restart.
Czarneski , Van Pay and Josh Long began to pressure Whitman in the four lap shootout to the checkers. Whitman hung on to collect the victory. Long and Van Pay were able to slip past Czarneski on the final circuit to take second and third place at the checkers, respectively. Czarneski settled for fourth, with Mishicot’s Kyle Kudick nabbing the fifth spot.
Little Suamico’s Tyler Wilson bolted from his pole position into the lead at the drop of the green of the 25 lap IMCA stock car feature with Mroczkowski running second and Rod Snellenberger third. The trio ran nose-to-tail for several laps, with Mroczkoski flying past Wilson into the lead using the outer groove.
The Krakow Ace would wind up winning the caution free, feature. Czarneski took home runnerup money, followed by Wilson, Nick Buckarma and Snellenberger.
The IMCA northern sportmod feature also went wire-to-wire without a caution to be found. Harsbarger engaged in a spirited battle all contest long with polesitter Tyle DeMars of Green Bay. The pair even swapped the lead a handful of times during the middle of the race.
The leaders sifted through lapped traffic in the final five circuits with Harshbarger hanging on to score the win. DeMars settled for second at the pay window, followed by Boone, Iowa visitor Matt Avila, Cory Kemkes and Ryan Besaw.
Diefenthaler grabbed the lead on lap two and kept the lead through a trio of caution flags and cruised to victory in the street stock feature. Reese’s IMCA sport compact win was no small feat, as the Chilton driver fought off heavy pressure all race long from Cody Booth and Michigan visitor Trevor Cronick.
A whopping 196 cars in five divisions filled the pit area. The large field included 56 IMCA stock cars, 41 IMCA modifieds, 37 IMCA northern sportmods, 34 street stocks and 28 IMCA sport compacts.
The eighth annual King Of The Creek race is slated for Monday July 14 thru Wednesday, July 16. A $10,000 prize awaits the winner of Wednesday night’s IMCA stock car feature presented by Appleton Camping Center. Practice is slated for 7 p.m. Monday night, with qualifying races scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday night, with last chance races and the big A main Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday’s show will feature IMCA modifieds and Pro Legends as support divisions while on Wednesday night Unified Dirt Street Stocks and IMCA northern sportmods will compete as support classes.
