Third-generation racer Brett Wenzel of Two Rivers scooped up his third stock car track championship at The Hill Raceway in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin Saturday, August 20. It was the final points night of racing at the third-mile, clay oval at John Miles Park.

There were 24 Stock Cars, 32 Street Stocks, 18 Sport Mods, 10 Modifieds and 4 Sport Compacts. Cody Rass swept action in the Sport Mods by winning his Heat, Feature and the Busch Shootout. Other feature winners were; Todd Dart (Modifieds) Luke Lemmens (Stock Car) Justin Jacobsen (Street Stock) and Scott Schlafke (Sport Compacts).

Track champions; Todd Dart (Modified), Wenzel (Stock Car), Randy LeMieux Jr (Sport Mod), Dave DeGrave (Unified Street Stock) and Calvin Stueck (Sport Compact)

Randy Theys led the opening circuit of the Sport Mod feature until Chuck Carmin took over on lap 2. Carmin quickly came under fire from Cody Rass. Rass hounded Carmin and eventually was able to take the top spot on lap 10. Rass pulled away from the field to score his first win of the season. With a second place finish Randy LeMieux Jr secured his second championship in a row. Carmin was third, Michael Plate Sr placed fourth and Jeff Vlies completed the top five. The contest went green to checker.

By making the feature, Brett Wenzel scored his 3rd consecutive Stock Car crown. All eyes fell on who would win the 400th Stock Car feature run at the Hill Raceway. Luke Lemmens jumped from the outside pole and left no doubt who that would be. Lemmens pulled away in dominating fashion and went unchallenged the remainder of the event. Lemmens scored his first win of the season and a clean sweep. Zach Spangenberg had a solid run to place second, Mike Pierrard was third, Nathan Otto had his best run of the season to take fourth and Robert Waechter Jr rounded out the top five. The race went green to checker.

In Modified action it was Kyle Kudick setting the pace until point leader “Felix” Todd Dart was able to slip by down low on lap 8 to take the lead. A caution midway through the contest didn’t slow Dart as he cruised to his 3rd feature of the season and another Modified championship. Kudick had to settle for second. Kesly Hayes fought back late to take third, Chris Pigeon was fourth and Jay Matthias took fifth.

What was setting up to be a battle to the checker with Justin Jacobsen and Presley Harrington in the Unified Street Stocks ended with a caution on the white flag lap. Scoring went back the last completed lap (18), giving Jacobsen the win in his first visit of the season. Harrington had to settle for second, Garrett Geyer took third, TJ Everard was fourth and Chad Naze rounded out the top five. Dave DeGrave captured his 3rd Street Stock title. It was also a clean sweep for Jacobsen.

In the Sport Compacts it was Scott Schlafke with his 3rd feature win of the season. Calvin Stueck took home the championship.
