VLIES REMAINS HOT IN SPORTMODS – UPDATED DIRT FEATURE TOTALS & MORE
Posted on: Sunday May 31, 2026

Casco’s Coy Vlies has won eight features so far in the IMCA northern sportmod class in 2026.
Currently, there isn’t a hotter driver on Wisconsin’s IMCA northern sportmod circuit than Casco’s Coy Vlies.
The second-generation driver scored his eighth victory of the season Saturday night at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek. The night prior, Vlies scored his fifth straight win at Luxy Raceway. Vlies remains undefeated at the Kewaunee County oval in Luxemburg.
Vlies remains undefeated at Luxemburg. The bounty on Vlies was at $600 last Friday. That amount is rolling over to $700 for this Friday, June 5. Vlies will pocket the loot, should he win his sixth straight at his home track.
Surpringly, there were only 17 sportmods who showed up to race at Luxemburg, even with the bounty. Did the word not get out to these drivers? Nearly double that amount of drivers (32) turned out to compete that same night at Outagamie Speedway in Seymour. I’m still amazed to this day when I glance at MyRacePass at how many drivers on any given Friday or Saturday night who will opt to drive right past a track that’s in their hometown or very near it, and travel to race elsewhere, often two or three times the distance. Sometimes, drivers don’t really make a lot of sense. And it occurs all across Wisconsin almost weekly.
BY THE NUMBERS…..with his feature win at 141 Speedway Saturday, Fremont’s Mike Wedelstadt earned IMCA modified career win number 117. Wedelstadt sits fourth in Wisconsin all-time wins.
Benji LaCrosse- 143
Brian Mullen- 131
R.M. Van Pay- 129
Mike Wedelstadt- 117
Todd Dart- 83
85-year-old Jerry Muenster made his IMCA modified debut at Luxy Raceway in Luxemburg Friday night.
Muenster, who won the track championship at Luxemburg in the year this scribe was born (1968) has been running Impact Survival Series (ISS) four-cylinder races with his son, Eddie Muenster.
On Saturday night at 141, Casco’s Benji LaCrosse hopped in Paul Parker’s backup late model, and wheeled it to an impressive seventh place finish in the Dirt Kings event.
Last Saturday, a total of 72 different sportmod drivers took part in racing action at tracks in his Francis Creek, Shawano, Sturgeon Bay and Plymouth. 79 IMCA stock car drivers competed at three of those tracks (minus PDTR). 33 late models were in attendance at 141 for the Diamond 48 Dirt Kings late model tour event. Dave “The Hammer” DeGrave picked up career win number 82 with his street stock feature win at Hill Raceway in Sturgeon Bay.
TRUCKERS ARE TRAVELING – The Wisconsin Sport Trucks this week will be in action Thursday night at Wisconsin International Raceway’s Fox River Racing Club (FRRC) Thursday Night Thunder show June 4. The following night, June 5 the traveling series heads west to Tomah-Sparta Speedway. Racing action at the rustic third-mile, paved oval is set to commence at 7:30 p.m.
WIR – This Thursday night’s FRRC action at WIR includes the “Teen’s Night Out” with everyone under 18 years of age getting admitted to the races FREE of charge. The 1/4 late models will also be in action, with racing getting underway at 6:30 p.m.
ARCA MT – The ARCA Midwest Tour makes a swing over the border to Norway Speedway Friday, June 5. Heading into this Friday’s race at Norway, Edgerton’s Casey Johnson holds a 13 point edge over Portage, Indiana’s Paul Schafer.
Last Friday at Norway’s opener, Gleason’s Justin Mondeik bested the field of 12 super late models to take the win.
KARTING KORNER – It’s Curtin Construction night at GSR Kartway in Clintonville Wednesday, June 3. Lawn mower and kart racing at the eighth-mile, clay oval is set to begin at 7 p.m.
Arrow Auto will be the event sponsor at Little Buckaroo Jr. Motorsports Park Sunday, June 7. Karting action at the clay oval in Cecil, Wisconsin gets underway at 2 p.m.
Remember to get out and support your local short track whenever possible IN PERSON. Nothing wrong with streaming, but NOTHING beats BEING THERE.
