T.J. SMITH GETS WIN # 6 AT THE ‘BURG, WEEKEND WRAPUP AND UPDATED DIRT FEATURE TOTALS

Menasha’s T.J. Smith picked up his sixth grand national division feature win of the year as the division made a “guest appearance” of sorts at The ‘Burg Speedway in Luxemburg, Wisconsin August 21.
21 cars checked in to do battle in the class that evolved in 1990 at Chilton Speedway at the Calumet County Fairgrounds. The Grand Nationals compete weekly at tracks in Francis Creek (141 Speedway), Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Gravity Park USA in Chilton and Beaver Dam Raceway.
A number of Grand National teams are expected to tow north on Labor Day weekend to Eagle River Speedway’s season finale on Saturday night, September 3.

Over the past weekend a number of drivers in multiple classes picked up their first feature flags of the 2022 campaign. Among the most profitable was Jacob Zellner’s $10,500 payday in the Captain at the Creek at 141 Speedway last Thursday night. The hefty payday came during Zellner’s first trip to victory lane in the IMCA northern sportmod class in ’22.
Other first time winners on the season included Oconto’s Dusty Loberger (IMCA stock car win at Luxemburg), Mosinee’s Andy Karl (IMCA modified victory at Shawano), Montrose, Iowa’s Todd Frank (late model at Shawano).
As tradition many tracks in the region will wrap up their weekly points battles in the next couple of weeks. After that the month of September and even into early October can offer up the “special season” at a number of ovals.
The number of available weeks to catch some racing at your local race track in 2022 are slowly beginning to dwindle. Get out and support your local short track in person whenever possible because track promoters cannot sell beer and burgers to someone who’s streaming the races online. NOTHING beats being there!
