SWEDBERG SAILS TO OUTAGAMIE DIRT KINGS WIN
(SEYMOUR, WI) Aug. 14- Shawano’s Brett Swedberg led every lap, and fought off challenges from Nick Anvelink on a pair of restarts to capture the Dirt Kings late model tour feature at Outagamie Speedway in Seymour Friday. The victory was Swedberg’s second Dirt Kings tour victory at the track.
The Shawano Speedster sprinted into the lead from his pole position at the drop of the green of the 30-lap contest. Anvelink, who started outside the front row, stayed within striking distance of Swedberg through a pair of cautions early in the race.
On each restart, Anvelink was able to pull alongside of Swedberg, but was unable to muster a pass. Swedberg was able to build up a full straightaway cushion by the halfway point.
Both Swedberg and Anvelink were forced to thread their cars through lapped traffic in the final 10 circuits. Those lapped cars allowed Anvelink to close the gap to within a car length or two. However, Swedberg proved to be too tough, and hung on for the victory.
Anvelink settled for second place money. New London’s Justin Ritchie, Shawano’s Lukas Postl and Waukesha’s Taylor Scheffler rounded out the top five finishers.
Hometown driver Jayden Schmidt marched through the pack from his sixth row starting spot, grabbing the lead on lap 14 and fighting off former track champion Johnny Whitman to score the IMCA modified feature.
Shawano’s Jordan Bartz paced the opening circuits until Beaver Dam’s Skyler Woods assumed the top spot on lap 13. A caution flew one lap later, when Woods stalled on the backstretch, when Schmidt inherited the lead. Whitman, who started 12th alongside of Schmidt when the field took the green, mounted a late-race rally, pulling up to Schmidt and catching him on a restart with four laps remaining.
Schmidt hung on for the win, with Whitman settling for second place. Derek Janke, Tanner Janke and Jason Ebert placing third through fifth, respectively.
Oshkosh’s Presley Harrington scored the upset of the night, sneaking past Tyler Wilson on the final circuit of the IMCA stock car feature to capture his first main event win here in ’26. Wilson took second place, followed by Michael Czarapata, Brett Wenzel and Jerry Wilinski.
Two Rivers’ Paul Diefenthaler grabbed the lead on lap 11, and kept Hortonville’s Trey Van Straten at bay to capture his 102nd career street stock feature win. Van Straten took second place, followed by hometown driver Jacob Ambrosius, Slinger’s Roman Blank and Manitowoc’s Austin Steinke.
Todd Frank escaped unhurt after his car flipped several times in turn one at Outagamie Speedway Aug. 14.
Green Bay’s Brett Deprez took the lead on lap five and cruised to his second straight, IMCA sport compact feature win in a caution-free affair.
Action was delayed prior to the national anthem when late model driver Todd Frank hit a rut in turn one, sending his machine into a series of flips, coming to rest on his roof. Frank was safely extricated from the battered race car. He was unhurt, but his car suffered significant damage.
