SIZING UP THE INTANGIBLES by Joe Verdegan

(DECEMBER, 2024 MONTHLY MOTORSPORTS MARKETING MAIL TIP)

When it comes to a motorsports team’s marketing efforts, it’s much more than slapping the company’s decals on the race car.

There are many tangible factors that possess a legitimate value to them. Make sure when negotiating with said business that you spell out clearly (in writing) all the specific details about the team’s physical assets. Those assets include (but are not limited to) the race vehicle itself, team hauler, the awning if you use one, you helmet, uniform, team crew apparel and other things.

It’s a good idea to state specifically where on the uniforms they will be placed – either on the collar, sleeve or chest. Make sure those details are hammered out ahead of time because it can get quite expensive to embroider or reprint something that the sponsors maybe didn’t like. Also it’s a good idea to clarify who is paying for those print costs?

Again, that’s a bargaining chip you can bring to the table when it comes to you marketing negotiations.

We do assist race teams with putting together sponsorship decks which are a critical tool in the great money hunt. Simply drop me an email at jverdegan2@gmail.com and let’s get those conversations started.
