SCHMIDT, GUELETTE AND BOOTH DOUBLE UP ON OUTAGAMIE FALL BRAWL FEATURES
(SEYMOUR, WI) Sept. 12 -When the dust settled on night two of the Fall Brawl at Outagamie Speedway in Seymour Saturday, a trio of drivers earned bragging rights as having won both feature races on Friday & Saturday Sept. 11 and 12, respectively.
Hortonville’s Dylan Schmidt, Luxemburg’s Shanon Guelette and Oshkosh’s Cody Booth all earned feature wins Saturday night in the IMCA sportmod, street stock and IMCA sport compact classes, respectively.
The three also captured the main events the night prior at the third-mile, clay oval.
A pair of hometown drivers – Jayden Schmidt and Mike Mullen, each scored feature wins in the IMCA modified and stock car divisions, respectively.
Beaver Dam’s Hayden Schmuhl and Luxemburg’s Dan Schultz each earned clean sweeps in the Pro Legend and Dairyland Vintage divisions, respectively.
The 25-lap modified feature saw no less than four different leaders, and was red flagged just two laps into the contest when Mike Mullen slowed by the frontstretch wall, and was clobbered by Mike Mueller. Both drivers emerged unhurt, but both cars suffered significant damage.
When green flag racing resumed Schmidt, who started seventh on the grid, hung around the top three during the first half of the contest. Polesitter Skyler Woods and Jason Czarapata went toe-to-toe for several circuits, swapping the lead. Schmidt slipped into the runnerup spot by lap nine, and after a lap 12 caution, Woods, Schmidt and Czarapata went three wide, scrapping for the lead.
Schmidt grabbed the lead on the 16th circuit, and kept the top spot through a restart with six laps remaining and went on to win. Marcus Yarie mounted a late race surge to finish second. Woods, Eric Scribner and Czarapata placed third through fifth, respectively.
Prior to Mullen’s mishap in the IMCA mod main, the second-generation driver executed a three-wide pass to grab the lead at the drop of the green, to lead that division’s feature event wire-to-wire. Second place finisher Luke Lemmens of Green Bay was able to close to gap on Mullen, but had to settle for second at the pay window.
Friday night’s winner Tyler Schrimpf, Eric Mahlik and Kenny Richards rounded out the top five finishers.
In the sportmod feature, Schmidt charged through the 24-car field from his 17th starting spot, and quickly closed in on the five spots during the first half of the contest.
A flurry of cautions flew, during which a number of different drivers enjoyed the lead, including polesitter Spencer Uttecht. Late in the race, Schmidt would whisk past Appleton’s Joey Taycher to take the lead and eventually the win for the second straight night. Taycher, Ryan Schmidt, Jordan Jahnke and Tim Jorgenson finished second through fifth, respectively.
Montello’s Jeff Richards swept action in the grand national division. The second-generation driver won both his heat race, and the caution-free division’s feature. Luxemburg’s Shanon Guelette survived numerous cautions, and grabbed the lead with five laps remaining and won the street stock feature. It was Guelette’s second win here in as many nights.
197 drivers from three states took part in the eight division show on Saturday.
