ROOKIE BAHR WINS IN 5TH NIGHT OUT – REGIONAL DIRT FEATURE TOTALS & MORE

Shane Bahr is living proof it’s never too late to begin chasing your dreams.
At 41, the longtime pavement crew chief decided over the winter to build an IMCA northern sportmod and begin climbing behind the wheel himself to have a little fun.
In just his 5th night of racing, the Appleton racer picked up his first feature win at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek Saturday.
Congrats to Shane and his crew. And more importantly judging from the pics I see on social media it appears he’s having fun. That “fun” factor is something that can often get overlooked in today’s world of motorsports.
Many tracks have closed the books on the weekly points racing, while a handful will wrap things up as far as points racing goes this coming weekend. Outagamie Speedway in Seymour will host its final points night of racing Friday, September 1. Last Friday night only the street stock feature was able to be completed before Mother Nature took the balance of the checkered flags for the evening.
BY THE NUMBERS – $1,250 is what Shawano’s Troy Springborn took home after his nail biter of a Dirt Kings late model feature win at Shawano Speedway Saturday night. The margin of victory was a razor thin – .045 seconds over “Mr. Excitement” Terry Casey of New London. 18 is the number of feature wins Manitowoc’s Paul Diefenthaler has earned in 2023 in the Unified Dirt street stock division. 130 is the number of career IMCA stock car feature wins Hortonville’s Travis Van Straten has earned after this weekend of racing. 16 is the number of points separating Appleton’s Sawyer Effertz from Neenah’s Lowell Bennett in the super late model championship chase at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna heading into the final night of points racing Thursday, August 31.
SEPTEMBER SPECIALS – With weekly points chases just about wrapped up, it’s “special season.” Among the post season specials includes Eagle River Speedway’s two-day special dubbed “The Last Blast” Friday September 1 and Saturday September 2. Friday night’s action will include a full program with Dairyland Vintage racers, 300 micro sprints and pure stocks. Qualifying heats will be run for B-mods, stock cars and street stocks.
On Saturday A full program featuring the grand nationals with the winner having a shot at taking home $2,309. USRA-style late models will also run a full show with the balance of the divisions running their features. Racing starts at 7 p.m. Friday and 6 p.m. Saturday.
The Hill Raceway in Sturgeon Bay will close out its 2023 season Saturday, September 2 with the Hill Shootout Special.
The show which will feature stock cars, sportmods, street stocks and bombers, will get underway at 6 p.m. at John Miles Park.
SEYMOUR FALL BRAWL – Outagamie Speedway will close out its 2023 season with its two day “Fall Brawl” Friday and Saturday September 8 and 9. Friday’s show will feature a full show of grand nationals along with double heat races for IMCA modifieds, stock cars, sportmods, sport compacts and Unified street stocks. Racing on Friday begins at 6:30 p.m.
Saturday’s program will include a full show of Dirt Kings late models along with last chance qualifiers and feature events. Racing starts at 6:30 p.m. Friday and 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Yours truly will be on the call behind the mic both nights. And we’re looking forward to it!
THE ‘BURG CURTAIN CLOSER – The final race of the year at The ‘Burg Speedway in Luxemburg will take place Saturday, September 30 for the Speedway’s Fall Classic. A six-division show will be capped off trailer races and a guest appearance from the grand national division. Fans are urged to check the track’s Facebook page for updates.
Gravity Park USA in Chilton will host its season ending race Friday and Saturday Sept. 15 and 16 while 141 Speedway in Francis Creek will host its annual Treek Strong Creek Classic Thursday through Saturday September 21 thru September 23.
KARTING KORNER – Its championship night at GSR Kartway in Clintonville Wednesday night, August 30. The karting and lawn mower racing program, presented by Hein’s Appliance gets underway at 7 p.m. Meanwhile there will be NO racing this coming weekend at Little Buckaroo Jr. Motorsports Park. Action will resume Friday, September 8 with HBI night which will include a candy drop a sportsman division driver introductions. The action at the Cecil, Wisconsin oval is set to begin at 7 p.m.
