RASS, WILSON & FREDERICK AMONG LUXEMBURG FATHER’S DAY VICTORS
By: Joe Orsini
Five out of 101 drivers were able to deliver feature win presents to their dad’s on Father’s Day at the ‘Burg speedway.
The Village Kitchen IMCA Modified feature was all about the K9 of Tyler Wilson as he shot to the lead on the opening lap and tried to set sail towards his first victory of the season in Luxemburg.  An early caution flew as “Big Money” Jay Matthias saw his first action of the 2022 season end as engine problems claimed his 8M machine in a cloud of smoke.  The ensuing restart had Wilson lead Brad Theys, Kyle Kudick, Jared Siefert, and Jason Czarapata back to the green flag.  Siefert worked past Kudick to third and fell into a battle with Theys for second.  Meanwhile Todd “Felix” Dart sliced his way into fourth.  Siefert won the fight for second and set about chasing down Wilson as the K9 still led at the ½ way mark.  As laps wound down Siefert was able to close the gap but not enough to apply heavy pressure to Wilson as Wilson notched his first ‘Burg feature win of the 2022 season.  Theys hung on for third while Dart finished out the top four.
The Quietwoods RV IMCA Stock car A-main event shaped up to be a nail biting event that saw Racer Rick Dix lead the opening lap only to quickly fall to the 88 of 2019 champ Mike Coel.  Caution flew with four laps in the books and Coel retired to the pits handing the lead to the 50F of Kyle Frederick.  Luke Lemmens, looking to grab wins on back to back weeks, worked past Dix into second while Handsome Shawn Havel moved up into fourth.  As laps wound down Lemmens found himself on the back bumper of Frederick’s machine but he could not find the momentum on the high side to work around the 50F that was dialed in on the infield tractor tires.  Frederick captured his second Luxemburg feature win of the season, Lemmens locked up a strong second, Havel was scored third at the line while Alex Crapser had an impressive run from 12th on the starting grid to finish 4th.
The IMCA Northern Sport Mod feature presented by Outdoor Enhancements LLC saw Jimmy Berkevich jump out to an early lead until he ran into a multi lap, side by side battle with the 23 machine of Chuck Carmin.  The duo ran door to door with Berkevich finding grip and momentum on the high side while Carmin hustled around the inside of the ⅓ mile clay oval.  Carmin eventually locked up the top spot as Berkevich slid back into second.  Cody Rass, looking to capture his second feature win in as many weeks, worked his way into second and found a way past Carmin by the halfway mark.  Carmin was unable to mount a challenge as Rass picked up his second feature win of the season.  Troy “Snoot” DeGrave came home third while Cole Czarneski charged to finish fourth after starting 12th.
The NEW Tech Metals Unified Dirt Street Stock feature had Jared Spaulding take advantage of the pole position to lead the opening laps.  Brooke Diefenthaler and Travis Zirbel waged a spirited battle for second that Diefenthaler eventually won.  Zirbel slipped back as Jesse Krahn piloted his 43 car into third.  By lap 8 Diefenthaler had grabbed the lead while Krahn ,oved into second and set his sights on battling with Diefenthaler for the lead.  As the pait closed on lap traffic Diefenthaler moved up a lane that allowed Krahn to work inside and satch the top spot before encountering the slower cars.  A late restart resulted in a green, white, checker finished that Krahn was able to hold on to the top spot, Diefenthaler settled for second, Presley Harrington had a strong run to third after starting 14th, and The Hammer Dave DeGrave rounded out the top four.
The final feature event of the evening saw the R4C Muder Hornet of Matt Kaye work past Matthew Mann on the second lap and never looked back on the way to capturing his second feature win of the season.  Defending champ, and current point leader, Scott Schlafke hounded Kaye lap after lap but was unable to force a fatal mistake and had to settle for second.  Jeremy Czarapata finished third, while Nick Everard overcame heavy left front damage in the heat race to come home fourth.
The ‘Burg Speedway will be back in action Sunday night, June 26th with another points night of five divisions of racing action.  The ‘Burg Speedway is located just east of Green Bay off Hwy 54 in Luxemburg at the Kewaunee County Fairgrounds. Gates open at 3:00 every Sunday with racing kicking off at 5:00.
