EIGHT EPISODE PODCAST SERIES WITH LONGTIME WIR OWNER/GM ROGER VAN DAALWYK DEBUTS AT JOEVERDEGAN.COM JANUARY 15
(Dunbar, WI) – Longtime Wisconsin International Raceway (WIR) owner and general manager Roger Van Daalwyk will be featured in an eight-episode podcast series with motorsports author & historian Joe Verdegan at Verdegan’s racing news/history website joeverdegan.com beginning January 15.
Van Daalwyk, a Kaukauna native, served as the track’s general manager right out of high school in 1972 at the age of 18. Roger’s father Joe Van Daalwyk owned the facility with an oval and a dragstrip until his passing in 1983. Roger leased the track from the family trust from 1984 to 1988. After consulting with longtime ARTGO promoters John and Sue McKarns, Roger purchased WIR.
Roger Van Daalwyk owned and operated WIR until the 2017 season, at which time he sold the track to his son Dan and Dan’s wife Ginger Van Daalwyk.
The series episodes, which are sponsored by Muenster Service Center in Green Bay, will be posted every Monday morning at the racing news & history website joeverdegan.com. In the episodes Van Daalwyk shares many tales about his long tenure at WIR, including everything from the dragstrip, the first ever USAC stock car race at the newly paved track in 1968, and the longtime working relationship with the Fox River Racing Club. The FRRC continues to promote the weekly, ‘Thursday Night Thunder’ races since 1975.
The podcast series episodes can be found on the ‘On The Record’ tab at joeverdegan.com and can be listened to through a variety of venues, including Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Podcasts, Castrol & Google Podcasts.
ABOUT JOE VERDEGAN – The best-selling author and motorsports journalist has penned seven books, including the 2016 release ‘Wisconsin International Raceway – Where The Big Ones Run.’ Verdegan also served as track announcer at WIR in the mid 1990’s.
