PETERSON GOES WIRE-TO-WIRE IN EAGLE RIVER USRA LATE MODEL MAIN
(Eagle River, WI) June 10 – Stockholm’s Lucas Peterson led every lap, and went on to capture the USRA late model feature at Eagle River Speedway Tuesday.
Peterson outraced fellow front row starter Aaron Reivitis into the lead at the drop of the green of the 20 lap contest. The visiting driver wasted little time distancing himself from the rest of the pack, enjoying a comfortable, near full straightaway lead. The second half of the contest was littered with yellows. One of those crashes took out former track champion Jason Zdroik as well as Zack Friske.
With each restart, Peterson kept the top spot and cruised to victory.
Reivitis claimed second at the checkers, followed by Jarrid Curtin, Dave Bennett and Todd Gorny.
Mass City, Michigan’s Kory Joliff jumped into the lead from his pole position and never relinquished the top spot en route to winning the B mod feature. Hometown driver Ryan Brown fought off Michigan’s Dave Dishaw to take second. Dishaw settled for third, followed by Dustin Kangas and Frank Gasperini.
Jason Zdroik won a caution free, 15 lap IMCA stock car feature. Zdroik’s margin of victory was more than one-half a lap.
Sugar Camp’s Jason Eisel emerged triumphant in a crash-filled, caution littered street stock feature. Less than half of the 18 car starting field was still running when the checkers flew.
Tomahawk’s Trevor Schumann won the caution free, 15 lap pure stock feature.
Minnesota visitor Tyler Pelofske swept action in the 600 micro sprints, winning both his heat and feature.
Both 300 micro sprint features went caution free. The Pro feature was captured by Twin Lakes, Michigan’s Cooper Aho, while the Semi-Pro feature went to Tomahawk’s Blake Wilke. Drivers from three states took part in Tuesdays racing program: Wisconsin, Michigan and Minnesota.
The next race at the third-mile, clay oval will be Tuesday, June 17 with the track’s annual Flag Day celebration. That includes the traditional on track, autograph session for the fans. Free checkered flags will be given to kids. All of the track’s weekly, regular classes will be in attendance, with the first green flag dropping at 7:00 p.m. For race day, weather information best to check the track’s Facebook page or email zdroikseagleriverspeedway@gmail.com.
