This weekend provided the best weather yet for race promoters across the region and there was no shortage of events for fans in northeastern Wisconsin to choose from. Here’s a quick recap:

BY THE NUMBERS – With his win Mullen earned his fourth feature flag of the year overall as he’s captured three IMCA wins as well.

A trio of drivers who are ranked in Wisconsin’s top ten of all time IMCA sanctioned victories added to their totals over the weekend. New Franken’s Shawn Kilgore scored his 57th career modified win at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek Saturday. Kilgore ranks 9th overall – two victories behind 8th place Jared Siefert who has 59 wins.

The IMCA stock car ranks also saw some action. Pulaski native Brandon Czarapata won his 134th win at Outagamie Speedway in Seymour Sunday while another national champion Travis Van Straten of Hortonville picked up career win number 128 at Shawano Speedway Saturday.

With his win at Shawano Saturday, Anvelink moved to within one win of tying national dirt late model hall of famer Pete Parker in all time wins at Shawano. Anvelink’s win Saturday was career victory number 91 at Shawano. With Parker at 92 victories, Anvelink has a good shot at eclipsing that mark, even while running at Shawano on a part time basis in ’23.

In the four cylinder ranks Faithorn, Michigan’s Trevor Cronick has found visits to Wisconsin to his liking as he scored his third career feature win of the year in the Badger state. Cronick’s latest win came against a 20 car four cylinder field at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek.

A LOOK AHEAD – When racing resumes at Outagamie Speedway Friday June 2, hometown driver Jayden Schmidt holds a slim one point lead in the IMCA modified points over Clintonville’s Lucas Lamberies (97-96) while Hortonville’s Ryan Schmidt has that same tight advantage over Freedom’s J.J. Vanderloop in the IMCA northern sportmods (106-105). Action gets underway at 6:30 p.m. in the five division show at the Outagamie County Fairgrounds in Seymour.

After a weekend off of racing, action resumes at The ‘Burg Speedway in Luxemburg Sunday, June 4. It’s military appreciation night at the track – with all active and veteran military members receiving free grandstand admission. The action gets underway at 5 p.m. at the Kewaunee County Fairgrounds.

Shawano Speedway will host it’s Hall of Fame night Saturday, June 3. The 2023 inductees will be longtime late model standout Gordie Seegert Jr. of Oostburg and former IMCA modified champion Eddie Muenster of Green Bay. The action gets underway at 6 p.m.

The Hill Raceway in Sturgeon Bay is off this weekend and will resume on Saturday June 17 with the street stock Busch shootout. A 6 p.m. start time is set for the action at John Miles Park.

BIG WINGS – This coming weekend Wisconsin will host one of the biggest sprint car weekends in the state’s history. The Gib Wiser Classic takes place at the “horsepower half-mile” at the Dodge County Fairgrounds in Beaver Dam. The following night June 3rd the Rayce Rudeen Foundation race at Plymouth Dirt Track will play out as a co-sanctioned event with the All Star and IRA sprint cars series.

With a $26,000 top prize on the line the PDTR event will be the highest paying sprint car race in Wisconsin history. “We’ve got a great lineup of regulars from both All Star and the IRA circuits,” said IRA president Steve Sinclair. “We’ve got Rico Abreu from California and some members of the Pennsylvania Posse Lance Dewease, Anthony Macri and Brent Marks coming. This is going to be huge.”
