DON’T BE A SPONSOR POACHER by Joe Verdegan

(APRIL, 2025 MONTHLY MOTORSPORTS MARKETING MAIL TIP)

I’ve seen a handful of cases of “sponsor poaching” over the years in Wisconsin.

Many times, that sponsor that can be “poached” or “stolen” is often a high profile sponsor like a beer company or a casino.

I view local and regional motorsports as a “brotherhood” of sorts. We’re all a part of something bigger. And

I strongly feel its detrimental to keep taking a bigger slice of that “sponsorship pie.” I also believe this is a black eye to our sport and instead, any race teams efforts should be directed at drawing genuine “new blood” into our sport.

If sponsor poaching continues – the size of that “pie” will continue to shrink.

I’ve also seen drivers undercut a bigger sponsor with promises as to being able to do the same amount for less. Again, is it playing dirty pool? Or is this also a case of every man or woman for his or herself? Sadly, it’s a sign of the times.

Folks, there are literally hundreds if not THOUSANDS of potential new, marketing partners in your region. Go after them. Try to think of what you’re doing as being a part of something bigger. Wouldn’t you like the size of that pie to be larger?

One of the critical tools in your great money hunt is having a professional-looking sponsorship deck to present to potential marketing partners.

I can’t stress this enough. If you’re NOT well versed in things like spelling and grammar, find someone who is. That person or persons can assist you in putting together a colorful, eye-catching sponsorship deck.

We do assist race teams with putting together sponsorship decks which are a critical tool in the great money hunt. Simply drop me an email at jverdegan2@gmail.com and let’s get those conversations started.
