MCGRATH, REINWALD AMONG OUTAGAMIE WINNERS JULY 18

(submitted by Joe Orsini)

(SEYMOUR, WI) JULY 18 – 136 cars and stars filled the pits Friday night at Outagamie Speedway.  Mother Nature backed off the heat from two weeks ago and from the rain last week to provide picture perfect conditions for racing at the third mile speedway.  While the temperatures were cooler the action on the track provided all the heat needed.

The Seubert Calf Ranches Late Model feature saw pole sitter, Mitch McGrath, grab the opening lap lead.  McGrath faced immediate pressure from “Mighty” Mike Mullen as McGrath ran the high groove and Mullen constantly harried the leader on the inside.  At the halfway point McGrath had a little bit of breathing room but a persistent Mullen continued to run second, while Justin Ritchie was third, Paul Parker fourth, and Justin Schmidt fifth.  The second half of the feature kept fans on the edge of their seats as Mullen and Ritchie fought tooth and nail for the runner up spot.  As the checkers flew McGrath captured the win, Ritchie won the battle for second, Mullen settled for third, Schmidt fourth, and Nick Anvelink rounded out the top five.

The Professional Plating IMCA Modified A Main kicked off with Russ Reinwald grabbing the lead early and looked to set sail towards victory.  The seas would be anything but smooth for Reinwald as Suamico’s Johnny “The Hitman” Whitman moved from sixth on the starting grid to second by lap three.  As Whitman set about reeling in the leader, caution flew on lap 5 and the fleet of cars bunched back up behind Reinwald.  The second half of the race saw a classic battle between two veteran drivers as Reinwald rode the top line and Whitman hugged the infield tires around the bottom of the track.  When the dust settled at the checkers it was Reinwald hanging on for the win, Whitman was content with a hard fought runner up finish, Cody Shroeder was third, Jason Ebert finished a strong fourth, and Dylon Waldvogel capped a solid night with a fifth place finish.

Former IMCA National Points Champion, Brandon Czarapata, wasted no time rocketing to the lead of the Monroe Truck Equipment\K&E Sales and Service IMCA Stock Car feature event.  Czarapata easily held the point through the opening half of the event as Josh Mroczkowski climbed to second, Jerry Wilinski third, Kyle Frederick fourth, and Dan Sell Jr. was fifth at the halfway mark.  The second half of the race was a different story as Mroczkowski put the screws to the leader.  The duo traded the lead back and forth like kids swapping baseball cards.  When the double checkers flew Czarapata locked up the win by 19 thousandths of a second over Mroczkowski.  Wilinski had a front row seat as the action unfolded in front of the third place finisher, “Chummy” Eric Arneson was fourth, and Clint Forstner climbed from 12th to finish fifth.

The Trailer Express IMCA Northern Sport Mod feature event kicked off with Travis Kleindl pacing the opening laps.  It didn’t take long for defending track champion, Max Oreskovich, to announce his presence as he put his 75 machine to the high side and hustled from fifth to the lead in the matter of two laps just before the halfway mark.  Lap 11 saw JJ Vanderloop move into second but Kleindl fought back on the inside to try an regrab the runner up spot.  The pair ran out of track on lap 12 as Kleindl moved up the track in turn two and contact with Vanderloop caused a caution.  Kleindl was called for the yellow but Vanderloop suffered a flat tire and had to retreat to the pits.  Oreskovich held off all comers through multiple restarts on a caution marred event and grabbed the checkers.  Dylan Schmidt finished second, Mitchell Fairbank came home with a strong third place finish, Kaden Besaw was fourth, and Jared Spaulding completed the top five.

The Vettings Customs Rigs and Rides Unified Dirt Street Stock A Main event started off the feature events with Devin “The Dagger” Yaeger wrestling away the lead from pole sitter Ryan Zimmerman.  While Yaeger led “The Dominator” Paul Diefenthaler was slicing through the field moving to third by lap three and into second by lap five.  A caution slowed the field after that fifth lap and Diefenthaler looked to capitalize on the restart.  When the green flew again Diefenthaler did, indeed, grab the top spot away on lap six.  Lap seven brought disaster for Diefenthaler though as his car suffered mechanical issues and he was forced to the infield.  The same fate struck Diefenthaler two weeks ago as he led the 4th of July Feature.  The battle for the lead then dropped to Trey Van Straten and Jacob Ambrosious as the pair fell into a heated battle for the top spot.  Van Straten was able to grab the spot and went on to secure the win.  Brian Gundrum battled to second in the closing laps, Ambrosious held on for third, Yaeger was fourth, and Malachi Bierman fifth.

The Midwest Equipment Dock and Lift Service IMCA Sport Compact feature saw Clint Malueg lead the first four laps before yielding the top spot to Tucker Pari.  Pari scrapped with TJ Everard and Morgan LaPlant for the second half of the race as the trio battled for the lead.  When the checkers closed the race it was Pari scoring the win, LaPlant finished second, Brett DePrez swiped third, Everard was fourth, and Al Cottrell was fifth.

Outagamie Speedway powered by Klink Equipment & Elite Coatings is back in action next Friday night, July 25th, featuring $500 to win for the IMCA Sport Compacts.  The Suebert Ranches Late Models will also be on hand as six divisions will be in action.
