TEEN RACER MACDONALD SHADES LACROSSE, WINS 1ST CAREER IMCA STOCK MAIN AT 141

(FRANCIS CREEK, WI) JULY 26 – It took 18-year-old Jamison MacDonald 65 races before he snagged his first feature flag in the IMCA stock car division at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek Saturday.

What was even more impressive about the recent Bayport High School graduate’s victory was the fact he fought off one of the best wheelmen in the nation – Benji LaCrosse – to do it.

The Suamico racer started back in row five of the 25 lap contest, and quickly motored his way up to the second spot by lap four. On a lap five restart, MacDonald caught up with race leader Jerry Wilinski, and the duo put on an exciting, back-and-forth scrum for the fans. MacDonald used the high side to take the lead at the halfway point of the contest.

Meanwhile LaCrosse, who started back even further in the field in row eight, had been methodically picking off cars one-by-one, surging into the 3rd spot by lap 16. Wilinski suffered a flat tire with five laps remaining. LaCrosse took second on the restart. The veteran tried hard to get around the younger MacDonald, even pulling up alongside door-to-door on a few occasions. But MacDonald hung on for his first career feature flag here.

LaCrosse settled for second, followed by a solid third place finish by rookie Michael Czarapata, who stormed through pack from 11th. Green Bay drivers Luke Lemmens and Eric Mahlik placed fourth and fifth, respectively.

For LaCrosse, he would be snake bitten not once, but twice as he came up one spot shy of winning in the IMCA modified feature. Brookfield’s Adam Crapser took the lead on lap three and fought off a tenacious fight from LaCrosse and Johnny Whitman in the late going to score the IMCA modified A main. LaCrosse took 2nd for the second race of the night, with Whitman, Greg Gretz and Brian Mullen placing third through fifth, respectively.

Fond Du Lac’s Brady Harshbarger sprinted from his outside, front row starting spot at the drop of the green of the IMCA northern sportmod feature. Harshbarger kept the top spot through a handful of yellows, and kept Sturgeon Bay’s Cody Rass at bay long enough to pick up the win. Trailing at the checkers were Rass, Chilton’s Colton See, Bruce Belland and Coy Vlies.

Two Rivers Paul Diefenthaler sliced through the field from his 12th starting spot, grabbing the lead on lap 14 and cruising to victory in the Unified dirt street stocks. Trey Van Straten marched through the pack from his 11th starting spot to close in on Diefenthaler in the waning laps to claim second place money. Brady Ascherien, David Hoerning and Jeff Richards rounded out the top five finishers.

In IMCA sport compact action, Luxemburg’s Brian Watzka Jr. took the lead at the drop of the green and sweated out a few caution periods to win the $1,000 top prize in that division’s feature race.

A pair of Powder Puff races were won by Maggie Davis and Season Bennett.

Next Saturday night, August 2 will be Everbreeze Property Maintenance Night at the races. IMCA stock cars will battle for a $1,000 top prize for the Red, White and Blue Series. Mechanics races will also be held. The hammer drops at 6 p.m.
