ATTENTION SPORTS/MOTORSPORTS – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LINDSLEY RETURNS TO NORWAY SPEEDWAY VICTORY LANE

(Pontbriand goes three-for-three in super stock action)

(Norway, MI) June 11 – 2020 late model champion Dan Lindsley of Norway made his first race of the season count.

Lindsley slipped past Manitowoc, Wisconsin’s Greg Haese for the lead on lap seven and went on to win the super late model feature at Norway Speedway Friday.

Vulcan’s Mike Lantange paced the opening four circuits of the 35 lap contest until he spun, handing over the lead to Haese.

Lindsley quickly caught up to Haese and the restart and pulled off the pass for the lead a few laps later.  Lindsley kept the top spot through a pair of cautions and kept second place runner Jason Wells a near full straightaway away as he sifted his way through lapped cars to score the win. Wells settled for second place with Justin Mondeik taking third.

Coming into this night Mondeik had been a perfect six-for-six in his trips to Norway. Mike Dangelo Jr. and Scott Stanchina placed fourth and fifth, respectively.

Lindsley became the third different late model feature in as many weeks of racing at the third-mile, paved oval.

While the storyline was parity in the late model class it was anything but in the super stocks. Hometown driver Joey Pontbriand charged through the field from his 12th starting spot and passed Andy Gerwig for the lead on the mid-race restart to score his third straight feature flag.

While it only took Pontbriand four laps to scoot up to the fourth spot early leader John Mattia Jr. had quickly stretched out a full straightaway lead over the field. With Gerwig running second tailed by Ryan Wender and Pontbriand, the trio caught Mattia on lap 16 when a caution flew for debris.

Pontbriand executed the pass on the ensuing restart, and it was all she wrote as Pontbriand dominated action in the division for the third straight week. Mattia placed second in his best finish of the year; Wender, Anthony Scheifelbein and Adam Faull finished third through fifth, respectively.

Cody Vander Loop of Freedom, Wisconsin and Spread Eagle, Wisconsin’s Todd Schmidt each scored caution free feature wins in the sport truck and stock car classes, respectively.

Vulcan’s Riley Johnson captured his first 4 banger feature of the season.

The late model heat was red flagged when a three-car crash resulted in the destruction of the cars of Bruce White and Dean Varda. Both drivers escaped unhurt, but both of their respective machines suffered significant damage.

Next Friday night June 18 Redline Sales and Service and Northern RV sponsor the nights action. A full program is on tap including Round II of the spectator eliminators. Racing gets underway at 7 p.m.
