With a Last Lap Pass, Luke Gives Them Lemmens

By: Scott J. Owen

Luxemburg, WI,07/26/2024 – Eighty-one cars graced the Luxy Raceway on a perfect Friday night for racing. Luke Lemmens netted his first win of the season, in dramatic fashion.  While Cole Czarneski, Nick Wunrow, Brian Watzka Jr. each scored their second wins of the season at Luxy.  With Coy Vlies cruising to his third feature win.

Shannon Guelette grabbed the lead on the opening lap of the Unified Street Stock feature as Nick Wunro moved to second.  Wunrow pursued Guelette until lap nin when he moved underneath Guelette to take the lead away.  Wunrow would lead the rest of the way for the win.Guelette, Edward Anschutz, Dave DeGrave, and Json Geyer completed the top five.

Zach Spangenberg started on the pole of the Stock Car feature and took the lead on lap one.  Tyler Wilson immediately began to pressure Spangenberg for the top spot.  Luke Lemmens and Presley Harrington soon joined the battle out front.  The four cars ran together in what looked like holiday weekend interstate traffic with Spangenberg continuing to lead.  Tyler Wilson would take to the outside lane on lap 11 of the race to take the lead from Spangenberg.  Lemmens grabbed second on the following lap.  With Wilson leading, the leaders caught the tail of the field.  Wilson struggled to negotiate lapped traffic which allowed Lemmens to catch him.  Wilson and Lemmens went three wide with lapped traffic with 2 laps to go.  Exiting turn four with the checkered flag in sight, Lemmens got to the inside of Wilson and was able to find the traction he needed to beat Wilson to the finish line.  Wilson would have to settle for second followed by Harrington, Mike Mashl, and Spangenberg.

Coy Vlies was dominant in the Sport Mod feature.  The Casco teenager led all 20 laps of the feature race en route to his third Luxy Raceway win of the season.  A midrace caution flag erased the big lead that Vlies had built up, giving the rest of the field a glimmer of hope, but it did not slow Vlies in any way as he checked out from the field again.  Behind Vlies it would be Josh Lambert making a late race charge to second, followed by Chris Kuchta, Jason Schilling, and Trevor Maurer.

The Modified feature saw Cody Schroeder assume the lead early on as Russ Reinwald and Cole Czarneski gave chase.Czarneski was able to get to the outside of Schroeder at the halfway point of the race and would not be turned back as he led the rest of the way for the win.  Schroeder held on to finish second pursued by Reinwald, Benji LaCrosse, and Kyle Kudick.

Brian Watzka Jr. went wire to wire to win the Four Cylinder feature.  James Riske, Neil Watzka, Barney DaVares, and Shawn Cady completed the top five.

Racing will continue next Friday night with championship night at the Luxy Raceway.  Five track champions will be crowned.  Racing will start at 7:00.  Full results and more information can be found online by searching Luxy Raceway on Facebook and on the MyRacePass app.
