DON’T BE LAZY by Joe Verdegan
(FEBRUARY, 2025 MONTHLY MOTORSPORTS MARKETING MAIL TIP)
Social media is here to stay – there’s no question about this.
Facebook. Instagram. X (formerly known as Twitter) and Snapchat seem to be the rage these days. We can communicate with a few keystrokes on our phones or tablets. My grandkids tell me Facebook is for us “old folks” and maybe there’s some credence to that. I’ve had a Facebook account since 2010 and I started my X account in 2016. I’ve had Snapchat and Instagram now for a couple of years. I’ve even signed up for (gasp!) a Tic Toc account and have started using that. (Baby steps, trust me!).
A trend I’ve seen is drivers relying almost solely on a simple Facebook post with the “Sponsor Me” requests. There’s nothing wrong with this, BUT you should always have some type of sponsorship deck handy to follow up with to present to a potential marketing partner.
To rely solely on Facebook as your marketing tool is ill-advised, however. It can be portrayed as being lazy. Especially when the post contains misspelled words like “sponser” or “sponcer”. Truth is, I’ve seen it. I’ve elected not to share some of those posts as to not humiliate or embarrass anyone. But it’s happened. And it continues to happen.
I can’t stress this enough. If you’re NOT well versed in things like spelling and grammar, find someone who is, whether it means hiring someone or seeking help from a friend or family member who does have a solid command of the English language.
We do assist race teams with putting together sponsorship decks which are a critical tool in the great money hunt. Simply drop me an email at jverdegan2@gmail.com and let’s get those conversations started.
