BUSSE NIPS GELDMEYER TO WIN FOURTH STRAIGHT VERDEGAN MEMORIAL BAGS TOURNAMENT

(Dunbar, WI) August 21 – Manitowoc’s Sam Busse hit a crucial 3 point cornhole to score a 21-19 victory over Dunbar’s Chuck Geldmeyer capture the annual Verdegan Memorial Bags Tournament at Camp Verdegan in Dunbar Saturday.

With the victory Busse scored his fourth straight tournament championship, becoming the only winner of the event four straight years since Craig Van Rite won the inaugural event in 2016.

Busse’s road to the title began with a 21-10 win over Bill Schleis. From there Busse disposed of Berk Geldmeyer with a 21-1 win in the 12 person bracket.

Geldmeyer’s road to the championship match began with a 21-0 shutout against his son Mason Geldmeyer in the opening round. Geldmeyer’s second round victory was a 21-8 effort over Kim Verdegan.

The third person to get into the semi-final round was Austin Geldmeyer. Geldmeyer scored 21-2 and 21-11 wins over Andrea Busse and Zackery Meyer to get to the semi-finals. Chuck Geldmeyer earned a semi-final round bye by having the lowest number of points scored against him (eight) in the first two rounds.

Sam Busse defeated Austin Geldmeyer with a 21-15 effort to advance to the championship round.

The tournament went along smoothly without any hiccups. It was the general consensus that was because Jack Verdegan was not there to file a frivolous protest as he has in past years. Instead, Jack attended the Green Bay Packers pre-season game.

The tournament is scheduled to return in 2022 with a date and time to be released in the near future.
