BRAISON BENNETT COPS FIRST WIR FEATURE FLAG OF ‘21

(KAUKAUNA, WI) August 5 –Neenah’s Braison Bennett, who was leading the super late model feature with 22 laps completed, was declared the race winner after the contest was washed out at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna Thursday.

Freedom native Kyle Calmes sprinted into the lead at the drop of the green of the 35 lap contest until polesitter Bennett passed Calmes for the lead on lap five. Fast qualifier Maxwell Schultz wrestled the second spot away from Calmes two circuits later and the duo pulled away from the field. The big lead Bennett and Schultz had was erased when a caution flew on lap 22 when Lowell Bennett tagged the frontstretch wall.

The attempted restart was aborted coming out of turn four when the cars of Nick Van and Sawyer Effertz collided. The wreck also collected the cars driven by Alex Seidl, Brent Strelka, Corey Manders and Bobby Kendall.

After a cleanup the race remained red flagged as a light, persistent rain shower fell upon the raceway. Fox River Racing Club officials decided to cancel the balance of the race. With more than half of the race completed Bennett was declared the winner, his first feature while driving for Chase Motorsports.

Schultz took second and a lead in the division point standings. Andy Monday, Jeff Van Oudenhoven and Alex Stumpf placed third through fifth, respectively.

Hometown native Danny Gracyalny fought off a late race surge by Phil Lehl to capture the Stan Gracyalny Memorial race for super stocks. The race is held in honor of Gracyalny’s father, who competed at the track for more than 60 years.

Lehl settled for second place money at the pay window, followed by Andy Casavant, Dave Meyerhofer and Terry Van Roy. To cap off the evening Gracyalny would go on to win the Figure 8 feature.

Fremont’s Dylan Wenzel and Appleton Wayne Posselt split the ¼ mile late model features.

Denmark’s Bobby Wautier extended his point lead in the sport trucks with a last lap pass on fast qualifier Cody Vander Loop to win the division’s feature. Vander Loop also won his heat race earlier in the night.

Defending track champion Scott Wolf of Appleton passed Emery Beattie with three laps to go to win the Sizzlin’ 4 feature. The late model feature was rained out.

Next Thursday August 12 the third leg of the Red, White & Blue state championships – the “Blue Race” will be held.  The racing program is presented by The Roundabout Bar and Marty’s Supper Club. The action gets underway at 6:30 p.m. You can check frrc.us for more information.
