BRAISON BENNETT NETS $1,200 AUTO VALUE PAYDAY AT NORWAY SPEEDWAY

(Norway, MI) July 8 – Neenah, Wisconsin’s Braison Bennett grabbed the lead on a lap 20 restart and held to top spot the remainder of the way to capture the 50 lap Auto Value series late model feature at Norway Speedway Friday night.

The win, which was Bennett’s second here of the year, was worth $1,200 to the third generation racer.

Norway’s 2021 rookie of the year Wyatt Spade led much of the early going in the contest but surrendered the lead to Scott Stanchina after a lap 19 spin.

Bennett, wheeling the Coleman Racing Products 119, stormed past Stanchina on the restart and never looked back, stretching his lead to a full straightaway for much of the race.

Gleason, Wisconsin’s Justin Mondeik closed the gap slightly on Bennett after a caution flew with 10 laps remaining but Bennett fought off the challenge. Mondeik settled for second place money, followed by Stanchina and Fort Collins, Colorado’s Jonathon Knee who wheeled the Mike Butz Racing entry to a fourth place finish.

Manitowoc, Wisconsin’s Gregg Haese rounded out the top five finishers. “Randy Klitzke prepared one heckuva car for me tonight – it was on rails” exclaimed Bennett in victory lane. “This is the car Johnny Sauter raced to a second place finish here last week in the Stateline Challenge. Even with the yellow with ten laps to go, tonight I wasn’t really worried about Justin (Mondeik). We had him covered tonight.”

Earlier in the night hometown driver Joey Pontbriand led wire-to-wire, guest driving Ryan Wender’s machine to a $750 Auto Value super stock win.

Defending stock car champion B.J. Schoneck of Marion, Wisconsin emerged triumphant in that division’s feature race while Kingsford’s Brent Barglind fought off his brother Brad Barglind at the wire to score the sport truck feature win.

The spectator eliminator feature was won by Kingsford’s Ryan Okler.

There is no racing next Friday night, July 15 but the TUNDRA super late model series comes to town Saturday night, July 16. The track’s weekly divisions will be in action including super stocks, stock cars and 4 cylinders with the action getting underway at 7 p.m.
