BENNETT THWARTS HAESE, MONDEIK, SCORES NORWAY LM FEATURE WIN

(Norway, MI) June 17 – Neenah, Wisconsin’s Braison Bennett, driving the Coleman Racing 119 car, fought off a stiff challenge from fellow Wisconsin drivers Gregg Haese of Manitowoc and Justin Mondeik of Gleason to win the late model feature at Norway Speedway Friday night.

Bennett led every lap from his outside, pole position and kept that lead through two caution periods in the 35 lap contest. Mondeik, who started the main in seventh, worked his way as high as 3rd but could not get past Haese, who took second place money in his best performance of the year. Mondeik settled for third followed by Kingsford’s Scott Stanchina and Kaukauna, Wisconsin’s Will Timmers.

The super stock features were split by Marinette, Wisconsin’s Kevin Peterson and the 2021 division champion Joey Pontbriand of Norway. Kingsford’s Brian Massicotte scored the stock car feature win while Hermansville’s Dean Bellmore netted a clean sweep in the Fab 4 division. Bellmore started the night off by capturing fast time and later winning his heat and fighting off a pesky Brett Ayotte in the waning laps for the win.

The spectator eliminator races were won by hometown driver Gerald Dugree Jr.

Next Friday night June 24 will be Hall of Fame night as the speedway will induct five former racers and DCRA board members into the class of 2022. They include Kingsford’s Bruce White, Marquette’s Mike Mattson, Escanaba’s Dale Peterson, Aurora, Wisconsin’s Ed “Big Bird” Hedlund and Menominee’s Red Adair. The vintage modifieds will also be in action. Racing resumes with the action getting underway at 7 p.m.
