BENNETT STAYS HOT – CAPTURES OUTAGAMIE LATE MODEL FEATURE by Joe Orsini

(SEYMOUR, WI) JULY 17 – 85 cars and stars braved the heat and haze to battle for victory at the third mile speedway.  The Midwest Equipment Dock and Lifter Services IMCA Sport Compacts featured dual features with the make up feature from June 5th being ran in addition to their regular feature for the night.  The Arneson Well Drilling IMCA Modifieds battled for a $1000 top prize.

Gunner Frank shot into the lead at the drop of the green in the Seubert Inc Late Model feature.  With a single lap in caution flew and slowed the pace with Frank leading Joel Bennett, Justin Schmidt, Taylor Scheffler, and Nick Anvelink.  Anvelink used the restart to move inside Schmidt and Scheffler to grab third on lap three.  Schmidt’s night ended the next lap as the 97 car retired to the pits with mechanical issues.  Caution flew again on lap 7 and saw the leader, Frank, break on the ensuing restart and handed the lead to Bennett.  Bennett held off a mid race challenge from Anvelink and locked up the win.  Anvelink settled for 2nd, Scheffler 3rd, Justin Ritchie 4th, and Paul Parker completed the top 5.

With a $1000 top prize on the line for the Arneson Well Drilling IMCA Modifieds the on track action was sure to heat up even higher than the mid July temperatures.  Tanner Janke grabbed the early lead from the pole position.  Janke faced immediate pressure from Jayden Schmidt as the point leader put his 24 machine to the inside of the leader to challenge for the top spot before caution flew with 2 laps complete.  When the green dropped once more Janke and Schmidt again battled for the top spot with Josh Long waiting in the wings for an opening.  Lap 4 saw Schmidt work inside Janke for the lead.  This kicked off six consecutive laps with a different leader with Schmidt, Janke, and Long trading the top spot back and forth like kids trading baseball cards.  Lap 10 saw Schmidt finally lead two consecutive laps.  That was just the beginning as Schmidt went on to capture the win and the extra payday.  Long was 2nd, “The Hitman” Johnny Whitman 3rd, Dylon Waldvogel 4th, and Tony Wedelstadt came home 5th.

The Trailer Express IMCA Northern Sport Mod feature saw “B-rad” Brad Miller grab the lead from the outside front row.  Miller held the point until lap 6 when Dylan Schmidt worked inside Miller coming out of turn 4.  Schmidt never looked back and locked up the feature win.  Mitchell Fairbank came home 2nd, Ryan Schmidt 3rd, Kaden Besaw 4th, and Spencer Uttecht 5th.

The Vetting Customs Rigs and Rides Unified Dirt Street Stock feature kicked off the night’s main events with Paul Ambrosius grabbing the opening lap lead but Mitch Meyerhofer powered by on the outside into the lead on the 2nd circuit.  Paul Diefenthaler quickly moved into 2nd on lap 3 and lap 4 saw the veteran racer grab the lead from Meyerhofer.  Caution flew with 9 laps complete when Jason Piron spun in the middle of turn 4.

The ensuing scrum saw Ambrosius spin hard on the exit of turn 4 and the sidewalls of his tired dug into the tacky racing surface and the 8A machine barrelrolled down the front stretch.  Ambrosius was able to get out of the car under his own power but his battered machine had to be hauled back to the pits on the business end of a wrecker.  When the green flew Diefenthaler launched into the lead once again with Trey Van Straten hot on his heels.  Van Straten was stuck in the tire tracks of the leader and looked destined for a runner up finish.  That changed in a heart beat as the leaders came out of turn 4 to take the white flag Diefenthaler bobbled just enough to open the bottom line to Van Straten and the 20T took advantage of the opening to grab the lead.  When the dust settled Van Straten was the winner, Diefenthaler 2nd, Chad Vetting 3rd, Logan Schmeck 4th, and Brooke Diefenthaler 5th.

The June 5th Midwest Equipment Dock and Lift Services IMCA Sport Compact make up feature ran right after the Sport Mod heat races and saw Brett Deprez grab the early lead.  Deprez worked the low line while Jesse Schulte went to the high side as the pair battled lap after lap for the top spot.  At the half way mark Schulte was the leader but he was unable to hang on the rest of the event as Deprez got back to the front when the checkers flew.  Schulte was 2nd, Kyle Jorgenson 3rd, Bo White 4th, and Nate Van Ooyen 5th.

The second feature of the night for the Sport Compacts had Todd Boehnlein grab the lead at the drop of the green.  Brett Deprez made a valiant effort to do the unthinkable and win two features in the same night at the same track but fell just short by racing through the field from 9th to finish 2nd.  Boehnlein was the winner, the aforementioned Deprez was 2nd, Tony Everard 3rd, TJ Everard 4th, and Bo White 5th.
