ANVELINK NETS WIN # 6, WEEKEND WRAPUP & UPDATED DIRT FEATURE TOTALS
Posted on: Sunday August 14, 2022
Second generation racer Nick Anvelink of Bonduel continued his winning ways in 2022 by scoring the Dirt Kings “King of the Park” at the bullring at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie Sunday night.
The victory was Anvelink’s sixth on the season in dirt late model action.
Sunday night’s program at The ‘Burg Speedway in Luxemburg was halted after a few races when veteran Dave “The Bulldozer” Bouche took a nasty tumble on the third-mile, clay oval. The races were canceled after that due to unsafe track conditions.
Most of the state got pelted with a ton of race and that precipitation forced cancellations at many tracks Friday and Saturday nights. A few got their shows in including Gravity Park USA in Chilton Friday night while Beaver Dam Raceway got their show in with northeastern Wisconsin racers Mike Mullen (Seymour) and Paul Diefenthaler (Manitowoc) scoring the feature wins at BDR in the modified and street stock divisions, respectively.
The win was Mullen’s seventh modified victory on the year while Diefethaler’s victory lane visit @ BDR was feature win number 12 for the longtime snowmobile racer.
One driver didn’t necessarily mind the rain on Saturday night as he was able clinch a division title because of his sizeable points lead. Kewaunee native Luke Lemmens secured the 141 Speedway Speedway IMCA stock car track championship. Lemmens has a 54 point lead over Suamico’s Aaron Stolp thus clinching the titles as in IMCA weekly racing one can only earn a maximum of 40 points with a win.
A little bit of 141 history – Luke’s dad Rick Lemmens was the first Mid American sportsman division champion at 141 when the track reopened in 1998 after sitting idle since 1990. The track was a quarter-mile, paved oval then.
LOOKING AHEAD – The final points night of racing will take place Saturday, August 20 at The Hill Raceway in Sturgeon Bay. Among the tightest points battles are in the sportmod class. Hometown native Randy LeMieux Jr. holds a slim four point edge over Brussels Craig Dorner heading into the final points night.
Other point leaders heading into championship night include Luxemburg’s Dave “The Hammer” DeGrave (Unified street stocks), Two Rivers’ Brett Wenzel (stock cars), Algoma’s Todd Dart (modifieds) and Clintonville’s Calvin Stueck (bombers). Action at John Miles Park kicks off at 6 p.m.
OUTAGAMIE UPDATE – The IMCA northern sportmods will square off for a $700 top prize Friday, August 19 at Outagamie Speedway in Seymour. The other divisions will also be in action including IMCA modifieds, stock cars, Unified street stocks, and sport compacts. Racing at the Outagamie County Fairgrounds kicks off at 6:30 p.m.
THE ‘BURG – A pair of points nights of racing remain at The ‘Burg Speedway in Luxemburg remain on Sunday nights August 21 and 28. Racing kicks off at 5 p.m. both nights at the Kewaunee County Fairgrounds with the track’s season ending event Fall Classic wrapping up the track’s ’22 campaign on October 1.
LITTLE BUCKAROO – Fan appreciation night is scheduled for Renewal By Anderson night at the Little Buckaroo Junior Motorsports Park in Cecil. Catch some of the future stock car racers at the kart racing track with action getting underway with hot laps at 6 p.m. and the first green flag set to fly at 7 p.m.
$10,000 REASONS – A $10,000 top prize awaits the winner of the Captain of the Creek for IMCA northern sportmod drivers at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek this week. The event runs August 16-18 with the big paying feature being run Thursday night.
PAVEMENT PONDERINGS – Rain washed out all the main events except the super stocks at Norway (MI) Speedway Friday August 12. A season high 30 late models were in attendance. Weekly racing resumes next Friday night August 19.
Norway point leader Justin Mondeik of Gleason scored his 12th super late model feature win of the season Thursday night August 11 at State Park Speedway in Wausau.
Three points nights of racing are ahead yet for “Thursday Night Thunder” action at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna while upcoming events for the Midwest Tour include the Iowa Donor Network 100 at Hawkeye Downs Speedway in Cedar Rapids, Iowa Saturday August 20 while TUNDRA super late models will be Round 5 at Golden Sands Speedway in Plover on Monday Labor day September 5.
The debut of the National Crate Asphalt Late Models (NCAL) in Wisconsin is slated for August 27 at Marshfield Motor Speedway. As of Saturday August 13 18 drivers have pre-entered for the Whelen World Championship Crate Asphalt race presented by Ken’s Sports – Wisconsin’s largest motorsports dealer. You can check the up-to-date entry list at the series website ncalracing.com or through it’s Facebook page.
