Navarino’s Nick Anvelink secured his 7th Dirt Kings late model tour championship. The second-generation racer officially sealed the deal during the Tour’s season finale at Plymouth Dirt Track last weekend during the 7th annual Jim “Wildman” Watson Classic.

This weekend Anvelink will tow north to WISSOTA country, where he will compete in the 49th annual Red Clay Classic at ABC Raceway in Ashland, Wisconsin.

Closer to home 141 Speedway in Francis Creek will host a late model special Thursday, September 26 to kick off the 15th annual Treek Strong Creek Classic this weekend. A pair of bands on both Friday and Saturday night will be part of the weekends entertainment. The Thursday night action begins at 6:30 p.m. with Friday and Saturday’s action kicking off at 4 p.m. Best to check 141 Speedway’s Facebook page for updates heading into this weekend. The weather forecast (for once) is looking favorable for a late September special event.

All of the track’s weekly divisions will be in action: IMCA modifieds, stock cars, northern sportmods and sport compacts along with Unified Dirt street stocks and grand nationals.

The Francis Creek oval provided a homecoming of sorts for former track promoter Matt Rowe, who brought his Impact Survival Series (ISS) last weekend. Phil Lehl topped the 60 car field, sporting a Muenster Racing entry.

Another second generation racer made his racing debut last weekend. Sawyer Frederick, son of IMCA stock car hotshoe Kyle Frederick, climbed behind the wheel for the first time facing live bullets at Gravity Park USA in Chilton. The Gillett racer finished 11th in A main action.

CHAMPIONSHIP NIGHT – Even though its late September there are still a few track/series titles that need to be buttoned up. In sprint car land the Midwest Sprint Association (MSA) will crown their champion after the season finale at Plymouth Dirt Track this weekend at the seventh annual Wisconsin Sprint Car Championships at Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth Saturday, September 28. Hot laps are set for 5 p.m. with racing to follow.

Heading into the final weekend Ben Schmidt holds a comfortable 63 point lead over Brandon Berth.

IRA OUTLAWS – The 410 IRA Outlaw sprints will wrap up their 2024 season with a doubleheader this weekend. The travelers will head west to Mississippi Thunder Speedway for the first time since 2012 on Friday, September 27. After Friday’s show the series will tow back to familiar territory at PDTR in Plymouth. “The Big Wheel” Scotty Thiel holds an 80 point lead over Jake Blackhurst heading into this weekends racing action.

TNT SPEEDWAY – The racing action is still going on this weekend at TNT Speedway in Three Lakes. The inaugural running of the pure stock dual will take place. Powder Puff races will also be held. Racing action is set to begin at 7 p.m.

PAVEMENT PONDERINGS – After having the racing action canceled last weekend because the pavement track surface was peeling up, The Wisconsin State Championship 50 at Jefferson Speedway has been rescheduled to Saturday, October 12. The event will remain a sanctioned event for the Midwest Truck Series but will be a non-points event.

FEST IS BEST – The truck series champion will be crowned after the annual Oktoberfest Race Weekend October 3-6 at LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway in West Salem. The Midwest Tour championship will also be settled.

The opportunities to catch some racing in person are dwindling so get out and support your local short track yet while you still can!
