AGELESS ZEKE RULES THE ‘BURG, YARIE CASHES IN @ SHAWANO – UPDATED FEATURE TOTALS
Posted on: Monday August 1, 2022
Hometown driver Dave “Zeke” Zeitler scored the IMCA modified feature win at The ‘Burg Speedway Sunday July 31.
Zeitler acquired his first race car through winning a card game and has been racing at the Kewaunee County oval since 1977 when the late Jack Peters was running the show at the third-mile, clay oval.
The victory was Zeitler’s first of the 2022 season.
Wausau’s Marcus Yarie started his weekend off on the right note Friday night with a non-sanctioned feature win in Antigo during the Langlade County Fair special. Yarie followed it up by fattening his wallet to the tune of $5,000 by winning the Big Style At The Half-Mile special at Shawano Speedway.
With his late model feature win at Shawano Speedway Saturday night Bonduel’s Nick Anvelink recorded his 89th career late model win at Shawano. The second-generation driver now sits just three victories from tying national dirt late model Hall of Famer Pete Parker of Kaukauna who leads the way with 92 career wins in the division.
WELLS WINS – Kingsford, Michigan native Jason Wells scored his first late model win of the year at Norway (MI) Speedway Friday night. What was impressive with that was Gleason’s Justin Mondeik could easily have roughed him up for the win but didn’t.
Mondeik followed it up with a victory in the TUNDRA super late models at Marshfield Motor Speedway in the Bev Aschenbrenner Memorial race.
Both Mondeik and Wells will return to MMS August 27 for the National Crate Asphalt Late Model (NCAL) race.
“RED ROCKET” VANDER LOOP WINS – J.J. Vander Loop of Freedom scored the IMCA northern sportmod feature win at Shawano Saturday night. In addition Vander Loop has scored a pair of late model division feature wins on the pavement this year at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna. At WIR in “Thursday Night Thunder” action Vander Loop sits 2nd in the points 28 points behind Appleton’s Bryan Monday.
LOOKING AHEAD – To the north Eagle River Speedway, plagued with yet another rainout last Tuesday, has Round II of their $1,000-to-win B Mod Triple Crown Challenge rescheduled for Tuesday, August 2. All IMCA northern sportmod drivers are welcome to compete. Round III will wind up being the following week, August 9 so two weeks of bigger paying specials are on the line at the third-mile, clay oval.
At The ‘Burg Speedway Sunday, August 7 Gandrud Auto Group will sponsor the racing activities. Action in the five division show will kick off at 5 p.m. at the Kewaunee County Fairgrounds.
On Friday night, August 5 at Outagamie Speedway a $500 to win top prize is on the line for the IMCA sport compacts with an appearance by the Vintage Modifieds. All of the track’s weekly divisions will also be in action. It all goes down at 6:30 p.m. at the Outagamie County Fairgrounds.
THE HILL – There will be no racing this weekend at The Hill Raceway in Sturgeon Bay. Action will resume at the circular-shaped, third-mile, clay oval Thursday, August 11 for the Door County Fair races. A full night of points racing is on tap in the track’s weekly classes with the Busch Shootout taking place in the sportmods. A 7 p.m. start time is slated at John Miles Park.
TUNDRA TIME @ WAUSAU – Round 4 for the TUNDRA super late models will be this Saturday August 6 at State Park Speedway in Wausau. Mondeik leads Riley Stenjem by 36 points heading into SPS with the team of John Beale/Dalton Zehr 38 marks behind in 3rd. On track action gets underway beginning at 5 p.m.
USA NATIONALS – This scribe will be hitting one of five tracks in Wisconsin he has yet to take a race in and many are questioning why it’s take me so long to get there. We’re headed to Cedar Lake Speedway this coming weekend for the USA Nationals. We’re going as fans in the stands – no media credentials and no (planned) driver interviews. We’re looking forward to the visit August 5 and 6.
Norway fans will get to enjoy legendary Tom Wagner behind the mic at Norway Friday night August 5.
