PUTTING THE TIME IN by Joe Verdegan

(October, 2026 MONTHLY MOTORSPORTS MARKETING MAIL TIP)

Motorsports in general can be a very time-consuming gig, on all fronts.

The time alone with simple routine maintenance in the shop, combined with often long hours traveling to-and-from said race track. Owning and working on a race car can take up a significant amount of your discretionary time.

So, when you are working 40-to-50 hours a week at your regular job, and then toss in ‘shop time’ even in the off season, searching for marketing partners can seem like an overwhelming task.

Truth be told, it is. But, if a driver or car owner is serious about seeking out marketing partners to fund your racing operation, you owe it to yourself to put the time into that aspect of your racing program as well.

Pencil in even two to four hours per week during the off season to follow up with potential partners, working the phones and email. Over the years, I’ve known some teams who’ve simply ‘given up’ and simply abandoned the process of a sponsorship search. Yes, it is a lot of work.

But, persistence DOES pay off. I’ve got two prime examples of drivers who have been VERY successful at beating the bushes and finding those new marketing partners. Eric and Parker Derks, and “The Flyin’ Mayan” Jamison MacDonald.

Both are readily available on social media, and would be willing to share their specific success stories with you. Both used sponsorship decks crafted by yours truly. You don’t even have to go through me. If you’ve got someone who is talented with graphic arts and has a grasp of spelling and grammar, go for it.

I can’t stress this enough. If you’re NOT well-versed in things like spelling and grammar, find someone who is. That person or persons can assist you in putting together a colorful, eye-catching sponsorship deck.

We do assist race teams with putting together sponsorship decks, which are a critical tool in the great money hunt. Simply drop me an email at jverdegan2@gmail.com and let’s get those conversations started.
