IOWAN ANDREWS STRIKES PAYDIRT, COPS WITTKOPF MEMORIAL NIGHT 1 SPORTMOD MAIN AT 141
(FRANCIS CREEK, WI) OCT. 9 – Estherville, Iowa’s Blake Andrews made the long tow to Francis Creek, Wisconsin payff Friday, as the out-of-state IMCA sportmod driver captured the lead on lap 20 and went on to win $2,000 sportmod feature on night No. 1 of the Rod Wittkopf Memorial.
The contest went green-to-checkers without a caution.
Polesitter Ryan Schmidt paced the opening rounds of the 30-lap contest, with former track champion Cory Kemkes blasting into the runnerup spot on lap five. The former pavement ace whisked past Schmidt to grab the lead on the following circuit.
Meanwhile Andrews, who had hovered around the third spot for much of the first half of the race, waged a torrid, side-by-side battle with two-time Captain of the Creek winner and fellow Iowan Jake Sachau, with Andrews assuming the 2nd spot on lap 19.
One circuit later, Andrews motored past Kemkes to take the top spot – a position he’d never relinquish, keeping the lead to the checkers. Kemkes took second, followed by 2026 IMCA national champion Coy Vlies, Sachau and Schmidt rounding out the top five finishers.
Algoma veteran Todd “Felix” Dart grabbed the lead on lap three, and kept the top spot after a lap eight yellow and went to win the IMCA modified feature. Seymour veteran Brian Mullen took second at the pay window, with Tony Wedelstadt, Brandon Schmitt and Kelsy Wedelstadt placing third through fifth, respectively.
Schmitt would emerge triumphant in the IMCA stock car main event. The Beaver Dam driver, who stared sixth on the grid, grabbed the lead on lap eight after a heated battle with R.M. Van Pay and polesitter Troy Muench.
Schmitt kept all challengers at bay to seal the deal. Sobieski’s Nick Buckarma sliced his way through the pack from his ninth starting spot to claim runnerup honors. Kyle Frederick, Benji LaCrosse and Muench rounded out the top five finishers.
New Franken’s Derek Moede led every lap en route to victory in the caution free, street stock feature. The victory was Moede’s eighth of the season on area ovals.
Other feature wins were collected by Pulaski’s “Hot Rod Snellenberger (grand national) and Burlington’s Matt Vander Vere (IMCA sport compact).
Racing gets underway on night two of the Rod Wittkopf Memorial at 5 p.m. A $5,000 payday is on the line for the winner of the sportmod feature. For more information check out our website 141speedway.com or check out our Facebook page.
