HEERY REDEEMS HIMSELF IN BADGER 50 by Scott J. Owen
(CLINTONVILLE, WI) SEPT. 26 – Saturday night may well have been the biggest night at the GSR Kartway in eons. A total of 107 competitors from across the state raced for bragging rights and cash. The feature action kicked off with Wyatt Wuesthoff leading from start to finish to win the Kiddie Kart feature for the second night in a row.
The Rookie Box Stock feature saw Carson Hill rocket past Maddon Henry on lap 10 to take the lead and go on to win the race. Henry Rickert was the quick qualifier. Broxton Henning set fast time in qualifying for the R Box Wing class, but Garrett Boisy led the entirety of the feature race. The Ken’s Sports Box Stock division was the Camdan Henry show. He hustled from a football game to the track to set fast time and then went wire to wire to win the feature. Easton Quaintance lived up to his nickname, “Quick Time” by turning the fastest lap in time trials in the Junior Three class. He backed it up in the feature by passing Landon Boldt on lap 7 of the 20 lap feature and led the rest of the way for the win. Samuel Bickley swept the action in the Junior Three class. He was fastest in qualifying, won his heat race, and led all 25 laps of the feature race.
The Senior division was highlighted by the $1200 to win, 24 lap Dakota Anker Memorial feature race. Jeffrey Teske got back behind the wheel of a go kart for the first time in a number of years and set fast time in a field of 24 karts. Teske started on the pole of the feature race, but gave way to Rick Ruesch on lap 4. Ruesch led the rest of the way for the win. He was followed by Devon Dorn, Trevor Ruesch, Teske, and Wyatt Blashe.
Tanner Johnson was unbeatable in the BP Wing class. He swept the action and went wire to wire to win the feature. Todd Schertz scored another win in the Mares Farm Market Outlaw Mower class.
The final event of the night was the Badger 50. The 50 lap, $600 to win Little Wolf Auto Sportsman division feature. It was quite a night for Jesse Heerey of Waukesha. Heerey set fast time out of 24 racers as the only one in the 10 second lap range. In the 50 lap feature Heerey led the first two laps of the feature before sliding off the track and bringing out a cautionflag. Heerey had to then restart at the back of the pack. Rick Ruesch took over the lead and was soon pressured by Faith Henning. Henning got to second by lap 6 and ducked under Ruesch on lap 11 to take the top spot. As Henning led, Ruesch rode right behind her in second. Friday night’s winner, Tyler Alton then joined the lead duo. Alton and Ruesch passed Henning on lap 33. Ruesch took the lead back on the next lap. All this time Heerey had gone to work passing karts to get back to the front. On lap 36 Heerey snuck under Ruesch to retake the lead. This time he wouldn’t give it up. Heerey finished first followed by Alton, Trevor Ruesch, Henning, and Olivia Schertz.
