TRANSITIONING FROM WEEKLY TO SPECIAL EVENTS RACING

Hometown driver Jayden Schmidt won the IMCA modified track championship at Outagamie Speedway Aug. 28.
Tis the part of the season where tracks and drivers shift from the weekly grind, the post-season specials.
This past week was a mixed bag of racing and wet weather. Friday night, Outagamie Speedway was able to get their final night of points racing in at the Seymour oval.
With Luxemburg off, we did see a few new faces in the pit area. Among them were “The Casco Kid” Coy Vlies, Rod Snellenberger, and others.
We also had a marriage proposal after the national anthem. Green Bay’s Brett Deprez proposed to his fiancee, Kaitlyn Aschenbrenner. Congrats!
Vlies is in the midst of chasing a national points title in his IMCA northern sportmod. So, he’s got to compete in virtually every sanctioned race he can. Vlies remains neck-and-neck with Maquoketa, Iowa’s Jarrett Franzen and Canadian Keenan Glasser. Vlies basically has until the final Sunday of September to collect any and all points for the national points chase. His travels this past weekend took him to East Moline (Il.) Speedway where he charged through the field into second to his chief rival, Franzen. We wish him luck!
Outagamie’s next big event will be the annual Fall Brawl September 11 and 12. A practice session will be held Thursday night, September 10. The Dirt Kings late model tour will be in action Friday night, with full shows both nights. A massive law-enforcement/military tribute will take place in pre-race ceremonies in remeberence of the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York 25 years ago.
On Saturday night, the Midwest Legends, grand nationals and Dairyland Vintage racers will join the show. Racing kicks off at 5:30 p.m. both nights. Check outagamiespeedway.com for more information.
IRA SPRINTS – The 900-horsepower, IRA Outlaw winged sprint cars will invade The Hill Raceway in Sturgeon Bay Sunday, September 6 for the third annual “Hill Shootout.” The Wisconsin WingLess sprint cars will joined the winged warriors at the third-mile, clay oval. Gates open at 3 p.m. with the first green flag flying at 5 p.m. The Sturgeon Bay event will be the third of a tripleheader weekend of racing for the winged warriors. They’ll compete Friday, September 4 at the Dodge County Fairgrounds, with 141 Speedway hosting the class on Saturday, September 5. Check out irasprints.com for additional information.
EAGLE RIVER SPEEDWAY – The final race of the season at Eagle River Speedway will take place Saturday, September 5. Seven classes will take on the track’s third-mile, clay oval. USRA late models, B modifieds, IMCA stock cars, street stocks, pure stocks, 600 and 300 micro sprints and Dairyland Vintage racers. The action gets underway at 6 p.m. The raindate, if needed, will be Sunday, September 6. A practice session is slated for Friday night, September 4. For those drivers who had a tough time making the tow north on a Tuesday night, it’s the perfect chance to come and give it a try. Especially for those sportmod and IMCA stock car racers who opt NOT to go race at the Supernationals at Boone (IA) Speedway.
KARTING KORNER – Wet weather canceled the kart racing program at Little Buckaroo Jr. Motorsports Park in Cecil on Sunday, Aug. 30. There will be no racing at Little Buckaroo on Labor Day weekend. The next event slated for the Cecil oval is September 14 for the Justin Arneson Homeselling Team night at the races. It will also be a “Halloween At The Track” promotion at the track. Action gets underway at 2 p.m.
GSR Kartway a trio of points nights left of racing at the Clintonville karting/lawn mower racing oval: Wednesday night September 2 and Fridays September 11 and 18. The big Badger 50 race weekend is set for September 25 & 26. Friday the 25th is the Prelude To the Badger 50, with the Dakota Anker Memorial Senior Sportsman’s race part of the Badger event on Saturday the 26th.

WIR – The final points night of “Thursday Night Thunder” racing action at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna is slated to take place Thursday, September 3. The Fox River Racing Club’s final night of points racing kicks off at 6:30 p.m. at the D-shaped, half-mile, paved oval.
No matter what, make sure to get out and support your weekly race track IN PERSON whenever possible. NOTHING beats BEING THERE!
