BIG MONEY WEEK FOR B MODS AT 141, EAGLE RIVER SPEEDWAYS

This is most certainly the week of “money” if you race an IMCA northern sportmod, WISSOTA Midwest Modified or a USRA B modified in Wisconsin.

Drivers of these classes will race for five-figure payday and two race tracks several hours (and in some cases) several worlds apart.

Eagle River Speedway promoter Pat and Patti Zdroik have gone all in on a high-risk event in the first ever “Rumble At The River” for B modifieds at the popular Northwoods oval. The event, paying $10,250 to the winner, will be run today and tomorrow (August 10 and 11). The  difference between this event and 141 Speedway’s Captain Of The Creek VIII (which pays $10,000 to the winner) is that the Eagle River event blends the three different sanctioning bodies together: IMCA, USRA and WISSOTA.  141’s big event is a 100 percent, IMCA-sanctioned deal.

It’s the rules package ERS runs for a it’s regular weekly, Tuesday night racing program. Eagle River had 49 drivers pre-entered prior to their deadline, but many in the know expect a field of between 60 to 70 B modifieds. A number of drivers, like Iowans Cam Reimers and Matt Avila, have taken off the entire week and plan to hit both shows. Avila is the defending winner of the 141 event the past two seasons.

Both events will most likely give the fans their money’s worth. Eagle River is a bit of a hike for a Monday or Tuesday. I’ve always called Eagle River Speedway a true “bucket list” track, as it truly is. Get out and support both shows if you are able to. Eagle River’s races both start at 6:30 p.m. At 141, the action begins at 6 p.m. both Friday and Saturday nights at 141 August 14 and 15. The Thursday night, test-and-tune will take place, with a full late model show on tap as well.

Luxy Raceway has canceled it’s planned Prelude to the Captain of The Creek that had been scheduled for Wednesday, August 12. The next time racing is scheduled to take place in Luxemburg will be championship night Friday, August 21.

THE HILL RACEWAY – A special Thursday night edition of racing takes place at The Hill Raceway in Sturgeon Bay as part of the Door County Fair races. Stock cars, sportmods, street stocks and four cylinders will be in action. The first green flag is set to fly at 6:30 p.m.

DIRT KINGS AT OUTAGAMIE – The DIrt Kings late model tour swings into Outagamie Speedway in Seymour on Friday, August 14. The action gets underway at the Outagamie County Fairgrounds in Seymour at 6:30 p.m. One other scheduling note, the IRA Outlaw sprint cars will be running at Outagamie on championship weekend night Friday, September 25 at the Seymour oval.

PARKER NABS SUPER SIX WIN – Kaukauna’s Paul Parker scored his first ever late model feature win at Plymouth Dirt Track last Saturday during the Super Six late model series.

KARTING KORNER – Weekly karting and lawn mower races are scheduled for Wednesday, August 12 at GSR Kartway in Clintonville. The action begins at 7 p.m. Little Buckaroo Junior Motorsports Park in Cecil will host it’s next race Sunday, August 16. Five Point Fabrication and Arrow Auto sponsor the day of racing, which gets underway at 2 p.m.

PAVEMENT PONDERINGS – There will be NO RACING at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna Thursday, August 13 due to the fireworks convention at the track. The “Blue Race” will take place the following Thursday night, August 20 along with a Crown Vic Encore race. The action gets underway at 6:30 p.m. Norway Speedway’s Stateline Challenge, which had been previously rained out, is scheduled for Friday, August 14. The event will honor Upper Michigan racing legend Gene Coleman, who will serve as the grand marshal for this event. Action is scheduled to get underway at 7 p.m.

ASA MIDWEST TOUR – The next event scheduled for the ASA Midwest Tour will be the Jim Sauter Classic 200 at Dells Raceway Park on Saturday, September 5. The TUNDRA super late model series next race will be October 3 at Marshfield Motor Speedway for the Fall Shootout.

Hard to believe it’s already August. As cliche’ as it may sound, the racing season in Wisconsin will be gone before you know it. Make sure to get out and support your favorite short track IN PERSON whenever possible.
