BLOCK SHADES GARCEAU, COPS EAGLE RIVER SPEEDWAY IMCA MODS FAST SHAFT QUALIFIER

(EAGLE RIVER, WI) June 30 – Tigerton’s Wyatt Block fought off a hard-charging Will Garceau of Francis Creek in the waning laps to win the first ever IMCA modified Fast Shaft qualifying race at Eagle River Speedway Tuesday.

Block, who started on the pole position, led all 20 laps, and dodged a handful of caution periods along the way to score the victory, in the IMCA modifieds first ever appearance at the third-mile, clay oval.

In the early going, it was Wausau’s Marcus Yarie who pressured Block hot and heavy in the first half of the contest. Block committed to the bottom line, while Yarie’s hard-charging style rode the high line, inches from the outer retaining wall.
Garceau, who started 12th, sliced his way through the field, storming past Yarie for second and setting his sights on Block. Block was slowed up a bit with lapped cars in the final circuits, but was able to keep Garceau and company at bay to score the $1,000 win. Garceau took second place, with Yarie, Cody Apfelbeck, and Dylon Waldvogel finishing third through fifth, respectively.

Block will be on the ballot for the All-Star Invitational race for the division at IMCA Supernationals in Boone, Iowa in September. The next IMCA modified, Fast Shaft qualifying race at Eagle River is set for Tuesday, July 21.

Conover’s Chad Lederer won his first career USRA late model feature at Eagle River Speedway June 30. (Castle Creations)

Sophomore driver Chad Lederer of Conover sweated out a bevy of caution periods, and fought off the challenges of hometown Ace Jason Zdroik to pick up his first career USRA late model win. The 2025 division rookie-of-the-year kept his racer glued to the bottom groove the entire contest. Zdroik finished second, followed by Dave Bennett, Shawano teen Corbyn Wassenberg and Jason McFadden.

Hometown driver Ryan Brown became the fifth different winner in as many weeks in the B modified class in a feature race that went green-to-checkered without a yellow.

Brown outraced fellow front row starter Dustin White to the lead at the drop of starter Lou Deditz’ green flag, and quickly began building a sizeable cushion over the field. Brown’s margin was nearly a full straightaway over White and rest of the competitors. While Brown enjoyed the lead, White waged a torrid battle with Owen Wilcox for second. At the checkers White beat Wilcox to the line for runnerup money. Wilcox settled for third, followed by Chippewa Falls visitor Michael Truscott and Dave Dishaw.

Former track champion “Hot Rod” Snellenberger of Pulaski snatched the lead on a lap four restart and fought off veteran pilot John Heinz of Green Bay to win his second IMCA stock car feature of the season here. The race was slowed by a trio of yellow flags. Heinz claimed second place money. White, Mitch Stankowski and Jason Zdroik took third through fifth, respectively.

In Unified Dirt street stock action, Rhinelander’s Josh Joslin broke the stranglehold the Eisel family had held on feature wins in the class. Joslin fought off Jason and Hope Eisel, who had been the only two drivers to capture feature wins in the division up until tonight, to score the win. Jason Eisel, Hope Eisel, Blake Joslin and Ben Pitlik finished second through fifth, respectively.

Hometown driver Reed Joslin picked up his second 300 semi-pro feature win of the season. Twin Lakes, Michigan’s

Carter Aho pulled off the same fete in the 300 pro division.

Racing resumes Saturday, July 4 as the MSA cars roll into the speedway. Joining the winged warriors will be USRA late models, 600 and 300 micro sprints, along with the Vintage modifieds and Dairyland Vintage Series. A massive fireworks display is on top to celebrate our country’s 250th anniversary.

Racing starts at 7:00 p.m. For more information check out the track’s Facebook page.
