Another weekend of racing is in the books. We missed penning a Monday column a week ago due to an exceptionally busy Memorial Day weekend, so we’ll get right to it.
Bonduel’s Nick Anvelink wound up winning the Super Six Series late model event at Plymouth Dirt Track on Saturday night. Wausau’s Marcus Yarie, a driver who’s in the top ten in all-time IMCA modified winners from Wisconsin, added an IMCA stock car feature win to his resume at Shawano Speedway Saturday night.
The trend of drivers in late model and modified classes competing in the stock car class continues to grow. Taylor Scheffler has also started running in that division, among many others.
Sobieski’s Tyler Wilson, running with his IMCA stock car, wound up winning the grand national feature at Plymouth Dirt Track Saturday night, May 31. So what prompted Wilson to race his IMCA stock car with the grand nationals at PDTR? “They like to water the track at Plymouth, and I want to win at every track I can race at in Wisconsin,” Wilson said.
$100,000 REASONS – Denmark’s Cole Czarneski placed third in the stock car feature at Mississippi Thunder Speedway Saturday. The race was won by Jacob Bleess of Chatfield, MN.
Czarneski was the only local to make the show in the $100,000 World Modified Nationals. The Denmark racer finished 14th. The six-figure payday was scooped up by Drake Troutman of Hyndman, PA.
OUTAGAMIE – The IMCA stock cars will scrap for a $1,000 top prize at Outagamie Speedway in Seymour Friday, June 6. The late models will also be on hand, with IMCA modifieds, sport compacts and Unified dirt street stocks also in action. Racing gets underway at 6:30 p.m. at the Outagamie County Fairgrounds in Seymour.
THE HILL RACEWAY – There will be no racing at The Hill Raceway in Sturgeon Bay this weekend. Racing will resume at the third-mile, clay oval on Saturday, June 14 on Therma-Tron-X night at John Miles Park. The modifieds will be an added division at John Miles Park. The mods will join sportmods, stock cars, street stocks and four cylinders. A 6 p.m. start time is on tap.
SHAWANO HOF NIGHT – Shawano Speedway will host it’s Hall of Fame night Saturday, June 7. The Class of 2025 inductees includes Norway, Michigan’s Joe Haferkorn, Shawanos Jeff Teske and John and Soon Stezenski. Racing gets underway at 6:30 p.m.
HIGH LIMITS – 141 Speedway will play host to the High Limit sprint car series Tuesday, June 3. This event is a stand alone race, as the winged warriors will be the solo class in action that night. Tickets will be sold at the door. Fans can learn more by visiting highlimitracing.com.
PRELUDE TO CLASH – A Sunday night “Prelude To The Clash” race will be run at Luxy Raceway in Luxemburg Sunday, June 8. Racing gets underway at the Kewaunee County Fairgrounds at 6 p.m.
BY THE NUMBERS – 104 drivers have earned points at 141 Speedway in the IMCA northern sportmod division alone in 2025. 21 late models were in attendance for the Super Six Series late model race at Plymouth Dirt Track Saturday. 5 is the number of feature wins earned by four cylinder racer James Reese of Chilton so far in ’25. $26,000 is the amount the winner will take home in the High Limit sprint car race at 141 Speedway Tuesday, June 3. 8 is the number of dirt late model feature winners between Dirt Kings Tour, Plymouth Dirt Track and Shawano Speedway to date in ’25. 146 is the number of IMCA modified feature wins Benji LaCrosse has earned in has career as of June 1, 2025. 38 different drivers have earned points in the Midwest Truck Series so far in ’25.
PAVEMENT PONDERINGS – Longtime Checkered Flag Racing News (CFRN) writer and photographer Bob Bergeron will be inducted into the Circle of Fame at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna, Wisconsin Thursday, June 5. Racing gets underway at 6:30 p.m.
Former NASCAR legend Mark Martin will be inducted into the track’s Circle of Fame on June 19.
MIDWEST TRUCKS – The next event on tap for the Midwest Truck Series is the Hub City 50 Saturday, June 21 at Marshfield Motor Speedway.
MIDWEST TOUR – The next Midwest Tour event is slated for Saturday, June 21 at Norway (MI) Speedway. Last Friday, Tour regular Levon Vander Geest of Merrill swept action, beating out the other 10 local competitors at the third-mile, paved oval. Check out midwesttour.racing for additional information.
KARTING KORNER – The annual “Battle at Buckaroo” special is slated at Little Buckaroo Jr. Motorsports Park in Cecil, Wisconsin Sunday, June 8. This is a non-points event, and normally draws several non-regular racers to compete. Action begins at 2 p.m.
Remember to get out and support your local race track IN PERSON whenever possible. Nothing wrong with the online streaming services, but NOTHING beats BEING THERE in person. A promoter cannot sell concession items to someone who’s watching the races from home on their couch.
