CZARNESKI FLIES TO $1,500 141 IMCA MODIFIED PAYDAY

(FRANCIS CREEK, WI) May 3 – Denmark’s Cole Czarneski slipped past Beaver Dam’s Brandon Schmitt for the lead on lap five, and was never headed the balance of the contest, as the second-generation driver captured the $1,500-to-win IMCA modified feature at 141 Speedway Saturday.

Schmitt jumped from his pole position into the lead at the drop of the green, with Czarneski keeping Schmitt in his sights from his row two starting spot. On the fifth circuit, Czarneski wrestled the top spot away from Schmitt, and kept all challengers at bay until a lap sixteen caution flew when R.M. Van Pay’s mount stalled in turn three.

When racing resumed, Czarneski picked up where he left off and cruised to victory. Schmitt settled for runnerup money at the pay window, followed by Cody Schroeder, Benji LaCrosse and Travis Hansen.

Suamico’s Josh Long earned the $100 Hard Charger award from Galloping Ghost Motorsports. Long charged from his 18th starting spot to earn a seventh place finish.

Schmitt, who played double duty wheeling both a modified and a stock car, found victory lane earlier in the night in the fendered class dubbed “Too-Tough-To-Tame”.

Schmitt started sixth in the 20 lap IMCA stock car main, and bided his time until lap 13. Schmitt engaged in a fierce dogfight for the top spot with Mike Mullen, R.M. Van Pay and Rick Dix. Two laps after Schmitt secured the top spot, the event was red flagged when Aaron Karcz rolled over in turn two. Karcz escaped injury.

On the restart, Schmitt hung on to win with Mullen a very close second. LaCrosse, who started 12th, sliced his way through the pack, and mounted a late race surge to take third. Alex Crapser took fourth with Dix rounding out the top five finishers.

Fond Du Lac’s Brady Harshbarger padded his points lead in the IMCA northern sportmod division in a big way. Harshbarger snatched the lead on a restart with four laps to go and captured the division’s feature.

Harshbarger also won the heat race earlier in the night, earning a clean sweep for the night.

Two Rivers’ Paul Diefenthaler truly earned his Unified Dirt street stock feature win. Diefenthaler had to qualify into the feature by winning a semi-feature. Diefenthaler carefully picked his way through the field, grabbing the lead from Derek Schrauth with seven laps remaining to secure the win.

In the IMCA sport compact feature that went caution free, Newton’s Adam Broehm crossed the line first. However, Broehm was disqualified following the race, handing the win to Chilton’s James Reese.

Action was halted during an IMCA stock car heat when veteran racer Jeff Bodendorfer of Waterford rolled his mount on the front stretch. Bodendorfer’s car suffered some damage, but Bodendorfer emerged unhurt.

A whopping 218 cars in five classes showed up to race on Saturday. The bulging field of cars included 34 street stocks, 56 IMCA northern sportmods, 57 IMCA stock cars, 44 IMCA modifieds and 27 IMCA sport compacts.

Next Saturday, May 10, 141 will host the “Mother’s Day Eve” night at the races presented by Bank First. A Kid’s Coin Toss is slated to take place during intermission. IMCA northern sportmods will scrap for a $1,000 top prize in round one of the Red, White & Blue series. All Mother’s get in for a $5 admission. Racing begins at 6 p.m. sharp.
