The exceptionally mild weather we’ve been blessed with in recent weeks have prompted some race teams to hold off on stripping down their machines as a couple of dirt track specials remain in northeast Wisconsin as we head into mid-October.

141 Speedway in Francis Creek and Luxy Raceway in Luxemburg will swap nights essentially on Friday October 11 and Saturday October 12, respectively. Just this week 141 added the “Car Wars” event for Friday night the 11th while Luxemburg has had the “Spooky Showdown” scheduled for months now on Saturday the 12th.

141’s Friday night show in Francis Creek has racing getting underway at 6 p.m. The track’s regular, weekly divisions will all be in action: IMCA modifieds, stock cars, northern sportmods & sport compacts along with the two Unified Dirt classes street stocks and grand nationals.

On Saturday at the Kewaunee County Fairgrounds modifieds, stock cars, sportmods, street stocks, grand nationals, legends and the Dairyland Vintage series cars will be in action with racing action getting underway at 4 p.m. The Saturday special race is in memory of Keith Leach.

PAVEMENT PONDERINGS – It was during Oktoberfest at LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway where Appleton’s Brandon Reichenberger clinched the Midwest Truck Series championship. The third-generation racer earned the crown with his eighth place finish to seal the deal by nine points over Chester Ace and 19 points over Eugene Gregorich III.

Reichenberger is truly one of the ‘good guys’ in this sport who races anything with a motor and four tires (including go karts). He’s also had stints of race track announcing and even flagging. Congrats to the Reichenberger family on a job well done.

The Truck series rookie-of-the-year could also most likely have won long haul awards for most every race. Big Bay, Michigan’s Parker Cain scored the R-O-Y honors. I got to know Cain a few years back when I was announcing the races at Norway (MI) Speedway. He won back-to-back features at the age of 15 at Norway.

Cain would move up to the super late models and this year he focused on his truck program. One thing to remember with Cain is even when he was racing at Norway it was still a sizeable hike for his team as they live on the northernmost tip of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

DELLS FALLOWEEN – The Dells Raceway Park annual “Falloween 150” is set for Saturday, October 19. Super late models, 602 late models and the Midwest Dash Series will be taking part. Qualifying is set for 12:30 p.m. with the first green flag slated to fly at 2 p.m.

JEFFERSON – The rescheduled Wisconsin State Championship is slated for October 11-12 at Jefferson Speedway. Qualifying is set for 4 p.m. with racing getting underway at 6:30 p.m. A full show of late model, sportsman and hobby stock racing is on tap for Friday.

Saturday’s action gets underway at 5 p.m. with a Midwest Truck series feature being run in a non-points affair with the other three classes mentioned earlier.

STATE PARK SWAN SONG – What could very well be the final race ever at State Park Speedway in Wausau is scheduled for Saturday, October. The Creepy Classic will run under the banner of Matt Rowe’s Impact Survival Series (I.S.S.) enduro. The 300 lap contest is scheduled to kick off at 2 p.m.
