MIKE MULLEN TRIUMPHANT IN OUTAGAMIE CURTAIN CLOSER

by Joe Orsini

(SEYMOUR, WI) SEPT. 14 – 170 cars across 7 divisions filled the pits for the 2nd night of the 2024 Fall Brawl.  With the WABAM Dirt Kings Late models on hand, as well as the Grand Nationals the stage was set to close down the 2024 race season in style.

The WABAM Dirt Kings Late Model feature event kicked off with Mitch McGrath using the high side to grab the early lead.  With McGrath leading “Mighty” Mike Mullen gave chase and constantly harried the leader until McGrath gave up the preferred high line to work through lap traffic on the bottom side.  Mullen utilized this move to stay hammer down on the top and worked past the slower car and McGrath into the lead.  Mullen didn’t look back and held on for the victory.  A full race recap will be up on the Dirt Kings website: https://dirtkingstour.com/dktnews/

The Professional Plating IMCA Modified feature event saw 2024 points champion, Johnny “The Hitman” Whitman have the luck of the draw by pulling the pole position for his starting spot.  Whitman jumped to the immediate lead but faced nearly immediate pressure from Cole Czarneski.  Whitman was able to hold off Czarneski’s advances and capped off his 2024 season with the Fall Brawl win.  Czarneski settled for 2nd, Jayden Schmidt was 3rd, hometown hero Flyin’ Brian Mullen 4th, and Konnor Wilinski rounded out the top 5.

Tim VanDeHei grabbed the lead on the opening lap of the Monroe Truck Equipment IMCA Stock Car A main event.  That lead was short lived as Cole Czarneski wrestled it away on lap 2.  While Czarneski tried to walk away from the field the pack went 4 wide for second.  Former modified hot shoe, Jared Siefert, came out of that battle with 2nd place secured on lap 3.  The veteran racer set his sights on reeling in the young gun and lap 7 saw Siefert throw his Sniper Speed machine to the top side and made the pass of Czarneski.  Siefert was able to fend off numerous attempts from Czarneski and held on to secure the win.  Czarneski had to settle for another 2nd place finish, VanDeHei was 3rd, Josh Mroczkowski 4th, and Brett Wenzel completed the top 5.

The Trailer Express IMCA Northern Sport Mod feature event kicked off with “The Red Rocket” JJ Vanderloop grabbing the lead on the opening lap.  Vanderloop was largely unchallenged until Jared Spaulding worked his way into 2nd on lap 10.  Spaulding had been working the highside and utilizing the momentum to hustle around the track while Vanderloop preferred the low line on the track.  Multiple cautions marred the event and eventually the race was cut short to a green, white, checker finish after the final caution.  With the abbreviated finish Spaulding didn’t have enough time to benefit from the momentum of the high side and had to be content with 2nd while Vanderloop captured the win.  2024 points champ, Max Oreskovich was 3rd, Jordan Jahnke 4th, and Barrett Hummelmeier capped off the weekend with a solid 5th place finish.

The Vetting Customs Rigs and Rides Unified Dirt Street Stock feature saw the 2024 point champ, Paul “The Dominator” Diefenthaler, jump to the lead on the opening circuit.  Diefenthaler’s time at the top was short lived as Outlaw Chassis hot shoe, Kenny Richards, quickly snatched the lead away.  Diefenthaler refused to give way and the pair stayed side by side as Travis Zirbel  and Eddie “The Eagle” Anschutz staged their own side by side battle for 3rd right behind the lead pair.  The top 4 worked through lap traffic with Diefenthaler using the slow cars to his advantage to secure the lead for good.  Anschutz completed the pass for 2nd on the final corner of the race, Zirbel finished 3rd, Richards 4th, and Brooke Diefenthaler rounded out the top 5.

The Schulte Construction – Building Blocks Childcare IMCA Sport Compact A-main event saw Justin Finlan power to the front at the drop of the green.  Thomas Schulte utilized the low line to grab the top spot on lap 2.  The pair traded the lead back and forth in a see-saw battle until it looked like Finlan secured sole possession of it on lap16. Schulte regrouped and ran the leader back down making the final pass of the night for the lead on lap 19.  Schulte hung on for the win, Finlan was 2nd, Jeremy Czarapata 3rd, Al Cottrell 4th, and Taylor Junk 5th.

The Unified Dirt Grand Nationals were also on hand for the Fall Brawl and Jeff Richards wasted no time shooting to the lead from his pole position.  Richards led green to checkers in a dominating performance.  TJ Smith had to settle for runner up, Dustin Weiss 3rd, Jake Richards 4th, and Jeff Muehlbauer was 5th.
