FREDERICK FLIES TO OUTAGAMIE CHECKERS by Joe Orsini

(SEYMOUR, WI) August 23 – 121 cars and stars rolled into the pits as championship battles neared a close.  The second to last points night proved to be full of excitement while points battles start to finalize.

The Professional Plating Inc. IMCA Modified feature kicked off with Trevor Spaulding grabbing the opening lead.  Spaulding’s time atop the hill was short-lived as Konnor Wilinski used lap traffic to steal the lead on lap 8.  As caution flags began to pile up it looked as if Wilinski would manage to avoid trouble at the front of the field and snag victory.  That all changed when Cole Czarneski took advantage of a restart with 12 laps complete to overtake Wilinski.  Czarneski held on to secure the win, making it his second in the modified division in as many nights.  Wilinski held on to finish 2nd, Racin’ Jason Czarapata was 3rd, Brandon Schmitt 4th, and Gary Janke completed the top 5.

Tim VanDeHei used his pole position starting spot to full advantage as he jumped to the early lead of the Monroe Truck Equipment IMCA Stock Car feature event.  Kyle Frederick wasted no time in moving immediately to 2nd.  Frederick worked inside VanDeHei and the pair battled side by side until Frederick locked down the top spot on lap 6.  Frederick was unchallenged over the remainder of the race, VanDeHei came home 2nd, Travis VanStraten was 3rd, Josh Mroczkowski 4th, and Jared Seifert rounded out the top 5.

Greenville’s Shane Bahr picked up the IMCA northern sportmod feature win at Outagamie Speedway August 23. (danlewisphoto.net)

The Trailer Express IMCA Northern Sport Mod A-main event kicked off with Shane Bahr launching immediately into the lead from the outside of row 2.  Bahr never looked back and locked up the victory.  Cory Kemkes finished 2nd, Jordan Jahnke was 3rd, Jerry Vanderloop 4th, and Taylor Sorenson was 5th.  Point leader, Ryan Schmidt, suffered a 17th place DNF finish which tightened up the points battle.  He will head into championship night with a 2 point lead over Dylan Schmidt while Max Oreskovich sits in 3rd just 5 points out of first and Cory Kemkes still has a shot heading into the final point night just 13 markers out of the top spot.

Brian Besaw grabbed the lead at the drop of the green in the Vetting Customs Rigs and Rides Unified Dirt Street Stock feature.  Defending race winner, Derek Moede, stole away the top spot on lap 3 while point leader, Paul Diefenthaler, worked his way to 3rd.  A caution on lap 6 regrouped the field and Diefenthaler used the ensuing restart to grab 2nd while Michael Czarapata also got past Besaw to snatch 3rd.  Diefenthaler set to work stalking Moede at the front and got by to the lead on lap 10.  Diefenthaler held on for the win and padded his point lead on Trey Van Straten when Van Straten suffered a DNF.  Moede hung on to finish the race 2nd, Czarapata 3rd, Besaw was 4th, and Brooke Diefenthaler completed the top 5.

The Schulte Construction – Building Blocks Childcare IMCA Sport Compact A-main event saw Kyle Jorgenson grab the opening lap lead.  Jorgenson continued to hold the lead at the halfway mark with Bailey Tate in 2nd, point leader Cody Booth in 3rd, and Logan Boehnlein in 4th.  Booth worked into the lead on lap 12 but Jorgenson was unwilling to surrender as he fought back and the pair traded the top spot back and forth over the closing laps.  When the checkers flew it was Booth hanging on for the victory, Jorgenson was 2nd, Al Cotrell, 2nd in the points, stayed in the championship hunt with a 3rd place finish, Boehnlein was 4th, and Tate closed out the top 5.

Outagamie Speedway by Klink Equipment & Elite Coatings is back in action next week Friday, August 30th as champions will be crowned on the final points night of 2024.  Racing kicks off at 6:30 PM with 5 big divisions of racing closing out the points season.
