Mother Nature decided that stock car racing was not in the plans this past Friday or Sunday as a number of scheduled races got washed out.

The streak of bad weather started the week out by erasing the Tuesday races at Beaver Dam Raceway and that streak continued into canceling the Wednesday night show at GSR Kartway in Clintonville.

On Friday the list was long and distinguished as racing programs scheduled at Outagamie Speedway in Seymour, Luxy Raceway in Luxemburg and Gravity Park USA all were washed out. That list of rainouts also included the kart races at Little Buckaroo Jr. Motorsports Park in Cecil Friday.

On Sunday night scheduled events at The Hill Raceway in Sturgeon Bay, Eagle River Speedway and the planned IRA Outlaw sprint car races were gonged at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek.

Appleton’s Cory Kemkes topped a stacked field of 47 IMCA northern sportmods at 141 Speedway Saturday. (danlewisphoto.net)

Saturday was the day to play according the weather Gods, and play they did at 141 Speedway. An insane field of 230 cars showed up in six classes to do battle. It literally does boggle my mind the number of cars the track continues to draw for a well run, weekly program. And it’s not all about the payout as drivers these days will often opt for consistent track conditions and a fast-moving show versus an increased, top heavy payout in many cases. Among the first time winners in ’24 @ 141 were Allouez’ Chris Pigeon (IMCA modified), Kewaunee native Luke Lemmens (IMCA stock car) and Appleton’s Cory Kemkes (IMCA northern sportmod).

A LOOK AHEAD – It will be Twin, $10,000-to-win races for the 2024 edition of the Clash @ The Creek at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek Tuesday and Wednesday, June 11 and June 12. Initially the deal was split into a pair of $5,000-to-win races each night. However with the help of Quietwoods RV Sales and Service the popular shows have received a hefty boost each night. Saturday night, June 1 Klink Equipment is sponsoring the nightly action at 141 beginning at 6 p.m.

The Hill Raceway in Sturgeon Bay will host modifieds Saturday, June 1. There will also be Big Wheel races sponsored by The Gnoshery. Stock cars, sportmods, Unified street stocks and four cylinders will comprise the balance of the field with racing getting underway at 6 p.m. at John Miles Park.

PAVEMENT PONDERINGS – Amherst’s Eugene Gregorich III placed 6th in the Midwest Truck Series event at Golden Sands Speedway in Plover Monday. Appleton’s Brandon Reichenberger finished 8th, Neenah’s Braison Bennett took 9th with Big Bay, Michigan’s Parker Cain rounding out the top ten finishers. The race was won by Jeff Holtz of Franksville. The next Truck Series event is slated for the Milwaukee Mile’s Father’s Day special Sunday, June 16.

We were fortunate enough to catch the season opening ‘Thursday Night Thunder’ race at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna May 23. Despite a couple of very light showers prior to qualifying the show went off without a hitch. Reedsville’s ‘Mighty Maxwell’ Schultz, after driving the 47 car for Chase Motorsports one season ago, has returned to his own 34 car. Schultz, who has announced his return to weekly racing in his own car full time came out swinging with his super late model feature win.

A solid field of 20 super late models were in attendance and the late model class has also seen some growth. 19 contestants did battle, up considerably from the past couple of years. The diverse field includes both young newcomers and former super late model drivers Brent Strelka, Tom Spierowski and Alex Stumpf added to the mix. In total 131 cars in seven divisions made up the show which included 30 Sizzlin’ 4s.

Can Ty Majeski be beat in Midwest Tour competition? Majeski once again mopped up the competition – winning the Salute The Troops 100 at Jefferson Speedway last weekend. It was the NASCAR truck regular and Seymour native’s third straight tour win.

The Tour’s next event is slated for the Wayne Carter Classic Saturday, July 13 at Grundy County Speedway in Morris, Illinois.

The TUNDRA super late model series will be in action Saturday, June 8 for the Bev Aschenbrenner Memorial Race at Marshfield Motor Speedway.

KARTING KORNER – GSR Kartway in Clintonville will once again try and dodge the raindrops and get their racing program in this Wednesday, May 29. Auto Services Plus Night sponsors the karting and lawn mower racing program. Those interested in renting a kart for the night are urged to call 920 915 1471. Action gets underway at 7 p.m.

On Friday, May 31 Little Buckaroo Jr. Motorsports Park will host it’s weekly karting racing program presented by Crazy Acres/Kurt Olson Construction and Seth’s Crops and Shop. A 7 p.m. start time is scheduled for racing at the Cecil oval.

Whatever the case may be, make sure you get out and support your local short track’s IN PERSON whenever possible. Nothing wrong at all with the various online streaming services available (It just isn’t for me personally). If you can’t make it in person they provide an option for you. But NOTHING beats the sights, smells and sounds of BEING THERE at your local short track.
