GETTING AHOLD OF THE DECISION MAKER by Joe Verdegan

January 2024 Monthly Motorsports Marketing Mail Tip

When reaching out to potential marketing partners one of the biggest mistakes some teams make is addressing a correspondence (whether its an old school letter sent via snail mail or the more common email these days) “TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN.”

Or worse yet, the WRONG person in charge of making decisions on where the advertising dollars will be allocated.

Simply put, if you don’t have the marketing director’s name and title (including the proper spelling) you could very well be wasting your time. Many marketing managers work for some sizeable companies. When you are inquiring about exactly who a sponsorship deck should be addressed to ask, ‘who allocates budgets for team sponsorships?’

It’s important for a couple of reasons. For one, sometimes folks often promote to other positions within a company. In today’s job market, which is heavily favoring the employee, folks are job hopping more now than ever. Stay diligent with sending your stuff to the right person.

Also, when it comes to the world of marketing/advertising it’s not uncommon these days to see close to a 20 to 25 percent turnover rate among employees, and that includes managers/decision makers.

For this reason, it’s critical to constantly ask who the actual decision maker is.

We can help you with your sponsorship decks. Once again this off season we’ve partnered with Bryan “Woody” Wodack of Woody’s Signs in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin to design your eye-popping cover pages for your sponsorship decks. Email me at jverdegan2@gmail.com for more information. Good luck in 2024!
