MILLER GOES WIRE-TO-WIRE TO SNAP BLACKBERG’S EAGLE RIVER SPEEDWAY STOCK CAR WIN STREAK

(EAGLE RIVER, WI) July 25 – Hometown driver Jonathan Miller sprinted into the lead from his pole position at the drop of the green and fought off a fast-closing David Blackberg in the waning laps to win the stock car feature at Eagle River Speedway Tuesday.

The victory by Miller, his first here of 2023, ended Blackberg’s win streak of six consecutive feature wins in the division.

Blackberg settled for second place money at the pay window, followed by Wausau’s Jeff Nowak, Eagle River’s Ryan Glembin and Glenwood City’s Ron Hanestad rounding out the top five finishers.

Hometown driver Jason Zdroik found victory lane twice in feature action tonight. Zdroik won both the B modified and late model features, but his victories were nothing but easy.

In the modified main Zdroik passed Rhinelander’s Judd Skubal for the lead with five laps remaining and fought off Tad Schoonover and Dave Dishaw in the closing laps for the win.

In the late model feature Zdroik went toe-to-toe with Travis Friske for several circuits before pulling into the lead late in the race and winning the caution free event.

The “Mayor of Sugar Camp” Jason Eisel continued his winning ways in the street stock class. Eisel started out the night by winning his heat and then scoring the feature win in the 18-car field by a full straightaway margin.

Track officials also broke out the broom for Pittsville’s Hoyt Cournoyer. Cournoyer won both the heat and led every lap in the caution free 600 micro sprint feature to net a clean sweep for the evening.

Marshfield’s Madisyn Dieringer netted a clean sweep in the semi-pro 300 micro division winning the heat and the feature. Twin Lakes, Michigan’s Carter Aho scored a wire-to-wire feature win in the caution free, pro 300 micro sprint class.

An “Open Wheel Madness” special will take place at the Speedway Saturday, night July 29 featuring the winged, full-sized sprint cars from the Midwest Sprint Association (MSA). Joining the full-sized sprint cars will be the Chef Rene B modifieds, Halsey Fab/Dan’s Service 300 micro sprints, JD Paintball & Archery 600 micro sprints and the winged micro sprints from Escanaba Speedway will be on hand.

A 7 p.m. start time is in effect for the Saturday program. For further information fans are advised to check the track’s Facebook page.
