“RED ROCKET” REMAINS HOT AT WIR, WEEKEND WRAPUP, REGIONAL DIRT FEATURE TOTALS & MORE

Freedom’s J.J. Vanderloop nicknamed “The Red Rocket” padded his late model division point lead by winning both the fast dash and the feature at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna last Thursday night.
Heading into this Thursday nights races Vanderloop holds a 24 point margin over Omro’s Brian Henry. Appleton’s Sawyer “The Maverick” Effertz won his third super late model feature last week and his points margin is thinner than Vanderloop’s. This week Effertz holds an 11 point edge over Reedsville’s Maxwell Schultz.
BUTZ SCORES NORWAY WIN – Green Bay’s Chad Butz picked up the late model win during Hall of Fame night at Norway (MI) Speedway. It was a big night for Menominee, Michigan’s Nick Anderson. The second generation driver scored the super stock feature win on a night when his dad Don Anderson was inducted into the Speedway’s Hall of Fame.
The other four members who were inducted included longtime track official and racer Terry Mott of Norway, Marquette champion Don Britton, Vulcan’s “Ironman” Tim Schultz Sr. and perhaps the youngest ever Hall of Fame inductee in the history of Hall of Fames Dillon Kralovetz.
At just 35, the Bonduel, Wisconsin race snapped up five straight late model titles at Norway, a track he’d been racing at since he was 20 years old.
TUNDRA @ DRP – The TUNDRA super late model series next stop will be Saturday, July 1 at Dells Raceway Park for the North American Cup. The event is dedicated to longtime engine builder Carl Wegner. Joining the super late models will be the Sportsman, Bandits, Six Shooters and the High School Racing Association. A huge fireworks display will cap off the evening. Qualifying gets underway at 4:30 p.m. with the first race taking the green flag at 6 p.m. You can check tundrasuperlates.com for more information.
CALLING ALL B MODS! – B Mod racers will square off for a $1,000 top prize at Eagle River Speedway Tuesday, June 27. An on-track, autograph session will take place prior to the racing action which gets underway at 7:30 p.m.
On July 4 the stock car class will race for a $1,500 top prize at Eagle River. For questions drivers can call track promoter Pat Zdroik at 715 891 1870.
BY THE NUMBERS – With their respective feature wins at Outagamie Speedway on Friday night, Casco’s Benji LaCrosse and Manitowoc’s Paul Diefenthaler each boosted their feature win totals.
LaCrosse collected his 134th career IMCA modified feature win while Diefenthaler scored his 8th Unified Street Stock feature win of the year.
24 is the number Dirt Kings late model drives who had intentions to race at Gravity Park USA Friday night. However, Dirt Kings pulled out of the deal, citing “track conditions” as the reason on Facebook.
10 is the number of late model racers who opted to stick around and race anyways. Justin Schmidt of Cleveland beat Waukesha’s Mitch McGrath to capture the win. Shawano’s Troy Springborn, Hortonville’s Joel Bennett and Howards Grove’s Bill Edler placed 3rd through 5th, respectively.
The other 5 drivers who opted to race instead of loading up included Sheboygan Falls’ Justin Green, Shawano’s Tom Naeyaert, Milwaukee’s Joe Bongiorno, Omro’s Kevin Baldry and Gillett’s Shawn Miller.
221 is the number of career IMCA stock car feature wins Pulaski’s “Hot Rod” Snellenberger has collected following his feature win at Beaver Dam Raceway last Tuesday night.
129 is the total number of IMCA stock car wins Hortonville’s Travis Van Straten has earned following Saturday night’s win at Shawano Speedway.
$4,500 is the amount of prize money Navarino’s Nick Anvelink pocketed after his Dirt Kings late model tour win at 141 Speedway Saturday.
6 is the number of four cylinder feature wins Faithorn, Michigan 4 cylinder driver Trevor Cronick has earned in 2023 at dirt tracks in northeastern
KARTING KORNER – Little Buckaroo Jr. Motorsports Park is OFF and there will be no racing at the karting oval in Cecil Friday, June 30.
Racing at Little Buckaroo will resume Friday, July 7 for a “Christmas In July” night presented by Renewal By Anderson.
A fireworks display will cap off the action at GSR Kartway in Clintonville June 28. The karting and lawn mower racing program, presented Wednesday by Ken’s Sports, gets underway at 7 p.m.
JIMBO SCHLEIS – Private services will be held this week for Manitowoc’s Jimbo Schleis. The former area racer and track official passed away June 19 at the age of 61. A celebration of Jimbo’s life will be held Saturday, July 8 at Tapped On The Lakeshore in Two Rivers from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
CELEBRATING TVR – A celebration of life for Darboy racing legend Terry Van Roy is scheduled for Sunday, July 9 at Hank & Karen’s Pub & Grill in Appleton from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Big wheel races will be held for kids who will be awarded with trophies plucked from Terry’s extensive collection.
