ANDERSEN SWEEPS LUXEMBURG FINALE – BENJI DOUBLES AT THE DUEL – UPDATED DIRT FEATURE TOTALS & MORE

A total of 183 cars turned out to close the curtain for the final time in 2022 at The ‘Burg Speedway in Luxemburg Saturday October 1.
When the dust settled track officials cracked out the broom for De Pere’s J.J. Andersen. The IMCA modified pilot pulled off the clean sweep in the division, topping the 21 car field to score the win.

Former IMCA stock car national champion Travis Van Straten of Hortonville picked up the division win on the same night his son Trey Van Straten won the Unified Dirt Street Stock feature.
As of October 2, 2022 Van Straten ranks third among all time Wisconsin IMCA stock car winners in the division, behind a pair of former national champions – Pulaski natives Brandon Czarapata and “Hot Rod” Snellenberger.

The curtain closer at Luxemburg was extra special for the Van Straten family as Travis’s son Trey Van Straten netted the Unified Dirt Street Stock feature that evening as well.
To the south Beaver Dam Raceway hosted it’s first ever Duel At The Dam with a two day show Friday and Saturday night. The race was staffed mostly by the 141 Speedway crew.
While the race wasn’t sanctioned Luxemburg native Benji LaCrosse stole the show in the modified class, picking up the division win both Friday night and the $3,500 win on Saturday night.
La Crosse almost picked up the hat trick driving Joe and Jim White’s stock car but came up just shy in the stock car feature at BDR, succumbing to a late pass by Iowan Elijah Zevenbergen at the checkers.
Manitowoc’s Paul Diefenthaler continued his dominance in the Unified Street Stock division – picking up win number 15 on the year at BDR.
The first ever “Duel” at BDR lured 175 cars in the four division program Friday night. As it turned out there were plenty of race cars to go around and despite some drivers opting to race closer to home at Luxemburg Saturday night BDR still pulled 145 cars on Saturday evening.
ANVELINK PLAYS BRIDESMAID – Navarino’s Nick Anvelink picked up a second place finish at the Red Clay Classic at ABC Raceway in the WISSOTA late models over the weekend. The race was won by Hermantown, Minnesota veteran Darrell Nelson.
TWO LEFT FOR TRUCKS – A pair of events remain on the Midwest Truck Series schedule yet in 2022. The trucks will be part of the show at the popular Oktoberfest at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway October 8 while the series wraps up their ’22 campaign at Dells Raceway Park.
Lake Geneva veteran James Swan holds a 157 point leader of Kody Hubred heading into ‘Fest. Appleton drivers Cody Vander Loop and Brandon Reichenberger sith 12th and 13th in the standings, respectively. A total of 46 different drivers have earned points in the series so far in 2022.
BY THE NUMBERS – Below is our list of northeastern Wisconsin dirt track feature win totals. Basically we feature drivers who hail from Northeastern Wisconsin or race at an area track regularly.
As such the totals reflect when what I call “local” drivers score wins at other tracks both in and out of Wisconsin. If anyone notices any discrepencies with these numbers shoot me an email at jverdegan2@gmail.com and we’ll be sure and correct those numbers.
197 different racers earned feature wins in the seven different dirt track divisions we tracked feature wins in.
In total 31 different modified drivers scored wins while in the stock car class 38 different drivers found victory lane. 39 different faces saw victory lane in the sportmod division in ’22 while the Unified street stocks had a total of 26 different feature winners this year. Parity remained constant in the grand national class where 23 different racers captured A main wins.
Between Dirt Kings Tour events, Shawano Speedway and Plymouth Dirt Track 13 different late model racers earned feature wins and a total of 27 different 4 cylinder drivers won features.
