Posted on: Monday September 26, 2022
With the month of September coming to an end that signals the traditional “winding down” of short track events across the Midwest. Here is a brief recap of where we are at following the past weekend.
FELIX GETS NO. 81 – Longtime IMCA modified veteran racer Todd “Felix” Dart of Algoma scored his 81st career IMCA sanctioned modified feature win at 141 Speedway Friday night, topping a field of 55 modifieds. Dart remains fifth in Wisconsin’s overall career feature winners.
WISCONSIN’S ALL-TIME IMCA MODIFIED FEATURE WINNERS AS OF SEPT. 26, 2022
Benji LaCrosse, Green Bay, 132
Brian Mullen, Seymour, 129
R.M. VanPay, Green Bay, 129
Mike Wedelstadt, Fremont, 113
Todd Dart, Algoma, 81
Brad Rohloff, Pulaski, 72
Eddie Muenster, Green Bay, 71
Jared Siefert, Green Bay, 58
Shawn Kilgore, New Franken, 56

Meanwhile the IMCA northern sportmod division saw a pair of modified aces square off in the sportmod class. Dart was one of them along with Luxemburg native Benji LaCrosse, who picked up the feature win Friday night in the division. The six-division show featured a total of 276 drivers from four states do battle in the final race of the season at the Francis Creek oval.
PUNKY MANOR – Bonduel native A.J. Diemel netted a third place finish in the popular Punky Manor Challenge of Champions for WISSOTA late models at Red Cedar Speedway in Menominee, Wisconsin Saturday. Bonduel’s Nick Anvelink placed 25th. The race was won by Bloomer’s Chad Mahder.
SPRINT CAR WRAPUP – Plymouth’s Ben Schmidt won the battle but Sheboygan Falls Travis Arenz won the war in Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wisconsin over the weekend.
Schmidt earned his 15th career PDTR 360 sprint car A main victory while Arenz wrapped up his second career PDTR and Midwest Sprint Association (MSA) championship over the weekend.
In IRA outlaw 410 action Springfield, Illinois pilot Jordan Goldesberry secured his first career series title.
TUNDRA MARATHON – Mother nature threw quite the curveball at Dells Raceway Park Sunday during the TUNDRA super late model season finale. Weather delays pushed the daytime show into an under the lights affair. When the dust settled it was Dalton Zehr scoring the super late model feature win while Gleason’s Justin Mondeik picked up the TUNDRA series title.
WHAT’S LEFT? – There still are some opportunities to catch some live racing in Wisconsin yet in 2022. The Gandrud Auto Group Fall Classic will wrap up the season of racing at The ‘Burg Speedway in Luxemburg Saturday, October 1. The divisions that will be competing include IMCA modifieds, stock cars, northern sportmods, sport compacts, Unified Dirt street stocks, grand nationals and the Dairyland Vintage series.
Racing action gets underway at 6 p.m. Check out The Burg Speedway Facebook page for further information. It’s a steal of a deal as grandstand admission will remain at just $10 for an adult ticket.
FEST IS BEST – Many pavement late model teams and fans will make the trek to West Salem, Wisconsin next weekend for the 53rd annual Oktoberfest Race Weekend at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway. Multiple divisions will be in action and a champion will be crowned in the season finale for the Midwest Tour. Fest runs from October 6 through October 9.
