ATTENTION SPORTS/MOTORSPORTS – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SCHOONOVER SHADES AHO FOR EAGLE RIVER SPEEDWAY B MOD WIN; CHAMPIONS CROWNED

(EAGLE RIVER, WI) August 23 – Hometown driver Tad Schoonover fought off a tenacious surge from 2022 B mod track champion Jesse Aho of Twin Lakes, Michigan and cruised to victory in the division’s feature at Eagle River Speedway Tuesday during the final points night of racing in the respective divisions.

The feature win was Schoonover’s first of the 2022 season. By starting the main Aho clinched the division title.

Jesse Aho wasn’t the only family member who wound up in victory lane as his son Cooper Aho won both the battle and the war in the 300 micros by winning that division’s feature and securing that classes track title.

Other champions who earned their titles in the final night of points racing included Eagle River’s Jason Zdroik (late model), Eagle River’s Michael Hicks (600 micro) and David Blackberg of Eagle River (stock cars).

Ontanogon, Michigan’s Emerson Manos had already clinched the street stock crown the week prior.

Rhinelander’s Jason Melton earned his pure stock division crown a week prior while Jason Zdroik was the overall B Mod Triple Crown champion with only two of the three races ran as one race was lost due to a rainout.

In remaining feature action a pair of Pittsville drivers emerged triumphant in their respective classes. Veteran Eric Pember and Hoyt Cournoyer each scored victories in the late model and 600 micro classes, respectively. Hometown racer Ryan Glembin nailed down his third feature flag of the year in the stock car class while finishing runnerup to Blackberg in the final division standings.

The street stock feature was red flagged at the start of the event for a massive pileup on the frontstretch as the field took the green. The wreck took out a handful of cars, the worse of which was suffered for former 300 micro champion Blake Hartman of Conover. Hartman got squeezed up into the frontstretch retaining wall right under the flagstand and climbed the retaining fence, his car slamming to an abrupt halt on the frontstretch.

The teen racer was shaken up but otherwise unhurt, but his car suffered significant damage. Other cars who were involved in the opening lap melee included Breydon Peterson, Todd and Dave Dishaw and Jason Melton. The carnage filled contest was won by Sugar Camp’s Jason Eisel.

Rhinelander’s Blake Joslin found victory lane by scoring the second 300 micro sprint feature win.

There will be no racing at the speedway Tuesday, August 30. The final night of racing is slated for our season ending special event on Labor Day weekend Saturday, September 3.

A total of eight divisions will be in action in the draw/redraw program. In addition to the late models, grand national sportsman will tow up from northeastern Wisconsin to race for a hefty payday. Coffen Construction stock cars, street stocks, Halsey Fab/Dan’s Service 300 micro sprints, JD’s Paintball & Archery 600 micro sprints and pure stocks will round out the card.

The first green flag is set to fly at 6 p.m. Fans are encouraged to please check the track’s website Facebook page or you can email patzdroik@yahoo.com or call (715) 891 1870.
