“T-MAC” PUTS WAR WAGON INTO VICTORY LANE @ THE HILL – WEEKEND WRAPUP & UPDATED DIRT FEATURE TOTALS
Posted on: Sunday July 10, 2022
Tim “T-Mac” McCormick is one of just a handful of racers who competed at the race track in Sturgeon Bay in the 1980’s before the track closed for several years and didn’t reopen until 1993.
The Sturgeon Bay veteran came out of a “semi-retirement” and put the No. 52 “War Wagon” into victory lane in the Unified Street Stock feature at The Hill in Sturgeon Bay July 9.
Meanwhile a few counties away at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek Manitowoc’s Paul Diefenthaler won his eighth street stock feature of the year, continuing his dominance in the division.
LOOKING AHEAD – Round II of the B Mod Triple Crown challenge will take place at Eagle River Speedway Tuesday July 12. Sounds like car counts will most likely be higher than the ten that showed up to do battle for round I last month. The draw cutoff for teams is 7 p.m.. with racing action getting underway at the third-mile clay oval at 7:30 p.m.
Excitement continues to build for the second annual Eric Van Iten Memorial race at The ‘Burg Speedway in Luxemburg Sunday, July 17. Last year the event provided monster car counts and it was hard to find an empty seat in the grandstands.
If you haven’t made it up to Luxemburg yet this year this event is one you won’t want to miss.
The powerful, 900 horsepower IRA outlaw sprint cars will make an appearance at Outagamie Speedway in Seymour Friday night, July 22. The IMCA modifieds and stock cars will also be in action during this special event, which gets underway at 7 p.m.
PAVEMENT PONDERINGS – Green Bay’s Chad Butz picked up the White Race win at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna last Thursday – ending a long drought of a Mike Butz Racing entry scoring a super late model feature win at the D-shaped, half-mile, paved oval.
BENNETT SHINES – After Braison Bennett’s late model feature win at Norway (MI) Speedway that leaves only two drivers who’ve scored the division feature wins at the third-mile, paved oval thus far in 2022.
Bennett’s Auto Value Series win was his second of the year at Norway while Gleason, Wisconsin hotshoe Justin Mondeik has picked up four feature flags at the Michigan oval, including the $5,000 Stateline Challenge.
Will things change this coming weekend at Norway? There is no racing at Norway Friday night and for good reason. The TUNDRA super late model series makes a return to Norway after an eight year hiatus Saturday night, July 16.
The last time TUNDRA was at Norway was in 2014. Dalton Zehr picked up the win, with fellow former track champion Dan Lindsley second and Wausau veteran Mark Mackesy third.
All three of those drivers who finished on the podium that year will be competing July 16. According to series promoter Matt Panure, a field of close to 30 late model drivers is expected to attend the TUNDRA go at Norway.
A full program is on tap including super stocks, stock cars and 4 cylinders. Same start times as a normal Friday night apply – qualifying at 5:30 p.m. with racing at 7 p.m. A 75 lap feature is on tap.
