HOLIDAY WEEKEND WRAPUP, UPDATED FEATURE TOTALS
Posted on: Monday July 4, 2022
The 38th annual Stateline Challenge at Norway (MI) Speedway is in the books and for the third straight year Gleason, Wisconsin’s Justin Mondeik came out on top and brought the borderline trophy back to the Badger state for the fifth straight year.
While the late model car count was down slightly from past years (21) a couple of different twists of things spiced things up from past Statelines. A pair of even/odd dash qualifying races were run.
In addition the 12 minute break at 50 laps provided yours truly to snag a few interviews with drivers which made things interesting for the race fans.
I wasn’t a fan of the 10 caution flags that flew but overall it was by far the largest crowd of the year and Mondeik took home the biggest payday of his career – $5,000. Big thanks to everyone who decided to take a trip to Norway for the big show.
In two weeks on July 16 the TUNDRA super late model series will make a stop at the third-mile, paved oval. It has been a few years since TUNDRA made it’s way to Norway and with the special Saturday night venue it will be a trip worth taking. Just a reminder to race fans there will be no racing at Norway the Friday night prior (July 15).
Nick Anvelink continued his hot streak with another Dirt Kings tour victory at Outagamie Speedway in Seymour Friday. The show at Seymour drew a whopping 181 entries in the six division show, which included 40 IMCA stock cars.
Hortonville’s Travis Van Straten scored his 125th career IMCA stock car feature win at Shawano Speedway Saturday night. The former national champion topped the 21 car field at the half-mile, clay oval.
LOOKING AHEAD – A $1,500-to-win stock car/street stock shootout presented by Coffen Construction will take place Tuesday July 5 at Eagle River Speedway’s third-mile, clay oval. The event will pit the IMCA-style stock cars against WISSOTA street stocks.
Draw cutoff is at 6:45 and hot laps will be provided for drivers. The first green flag flies at 7:30 p.m.
The Hill Raceway in Sturgeon Bay returns to action Saturday, July 9. The street stock Busch shootout will cap off the nights activities. Action gets underway at 6 p.m. at John Miles Park.
There is no shortage of big paydays coming up in the month of July in northeastern Wisconsin. A $35,000 purse is on the line July 17 at The ‘Burg Speedway in Luxemburg for the second annual Eric Van Iten Memorial race. IMCA stock cars will square off for a $5,000 top prize while the modifieds will battle for a $2,500 top prize.
At Shawano Speedway Saturday July 23 a hefty payout throughout the field will be available for IMCA stock cars at the “Big Money Style On The Half Mile” takes place. The stocks will race for a minimum of $2,500-to-win while the work continues to build the purse for the modifieds as well. More announcements on that big show are coming in the next week or two.
The goal is to keep some heavy hitters from out-of-state who tow up to compete in the King of the Creek race at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek July 19-21 which pays out 10k to the IMCA stock car winner.
2022 NORTHEAST WISCONSIN DIRT TRACK WIN TOTALS (after day Sunday July 1, 2022)
