ANVELINK DOUBLES DOWN IN DIRT KINGS ACTION, WEEKEND WRAPUP & FEATURE TOTALS
Posted on: Monday June 27, 2022
Navarino’s Nick Anvelink scored a pair of Dirt Kings late model series wins over the weekend.
The second-generation racer opened up his successful weekend with a victory on the quarter-mile bullring at Gravity Park USA in Chilton Friday night.
On Saturday it was back to his old stomping grounds at Shawano Speedway’s half-mile where he topped the 15 car field.
Also on Saturday a late afternoon rainout at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek prompted a caravan of race teams to tow north on highway 57 to The Hill Raceway in Sturgeon Bay. With veteran track announcer Tom Wagner calling the action on Hall of Fame night it was great to return to Sturgeon Bay.
We nabbed a great series of interviews with Wagner and we’ll be making an announcement very soon on a podcast series with him. It’s like gold folks. Stay tuned…..
At Shawano Speedway the ageless wonder, 81-year-old Jerry Muenster scored a popular heat race win in the IMCA modified class. Jerry is quick to point out that Red Farmer is still older than him and as of right now as long as his health permits Jerry plans on continuing to race for quite some time.
While they don’t typically get a whole lot of “extra ink” per se we’ve got to give a shout out to Luxemburg’s Nathan Lisowe who leads the way in total feature wins in the region with seven in the 4 cylinder class.
PAVEMENT PONDERINGS – Sobieski’s Tom Gee Jr. captured the Midwest Truck series win at Slinger Super Speedway Sunday. Freedom’s Cody Vander Loop netted fast time out of the 26 truck field.
LOOKING AHEAD – NASCAR truck champion Johnny Sauter is among the entrants for the 38th annual Stateline Challenge presented by Island Resort & Casino at Norway (MI) Speedway Friday July 1. Gleason’s Justin Mondeik, who’s won three of four late model features already this year, will be gunning for his third straight Stateline win.
Racing starts at 7 p.m. for the largest race of the year at the third-mile, paved oval. The Stateline normally draws a sizeable car count and huge crowds in the grandstands with a field of more than two dozen late model racers expected to participate from Wisconsin and Michigan.
Remember to get out and support your local race track because NOTHING beats being there. Promoters cannot sell food and drink to someone sitting at home on their couches! Have a great week everyone!
