Two Rivers Eddie “The Eagle” Anschutz managed to score his 76th career feature win at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek, Wisconsin Saturday, June 4.

Anschutz’s victory came in the Unified Dirt Street Stock division. Anschutz, who is a former IMCA hobby stock champion, also calls the action on the p.a. Friday nights at Outagamie Speedway in Seymour, Wisconsin.

Meanwhile a couple of counties over that same night veteran Troy Springborn continued to show his prowess in the dirt late models, capturing his fourth feature win on the 2022 campaign at his home track Shawano Speedway.

The Friday night prior Springborn towed west with several other late model hotshoes from the eastern half of the state where he placed 12th in the DIrt Kings Tour Stars and Stripes 40 at Mississippi Thunder Speedway in Fountain City, Wisconsin.   The event was won by Jake Timm. Joining Timm on the podium at MTS were New London’s Justin Ritchie and former pavement star, Minnesotan Nick Panitzke.

A pair of race tracks saw their feature races get cancelled – both for different reasons. Saturday night at Plymouth Dirt Track the show was abruptly halted when Justin Miller’s 360 sprinter crashed through the turn three fence during the B main at the third-mile, clay oval. Miller was unhurt but the damage sustained to the fencing was too severe to continue.

Meanwhile Sunday night at The ‘Burg Speedway in Luxemburg Mother Nature had the final say as rain moved in and washed out the main events at the Kewaunee County Fairgrounds.

Longtime Luxemburg Speedway promoter Rick Goral shown here in 2017. Rick passed away in 2018.

This coming Sunday, June 12 the track will host the Rick Goral Memorial with racing getting underway at 5 p.m. I am very much looking forward to a return to Luxemburg. When Rick Goral and Bobby Dorner were running the show I worked as the track announcer/public relations director for all ten seasons from 2002 to 2011. They were both great bosses and I miss Rick dearly. He was more than a boss – he was a very good friend.

We’ll be hosting a book signing underneath the grandstands from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and will have plenty of book deals available to help fans fight inflation.

From there it’s off to Hall of Fame night at The Hill Raceway in Sturgeon Bay Saturday, June 25. The Hill always puts on a great show and we’ll do a signing there as well during their HOF night which is always a popular draw.

To the north weekly Tuesday night racing is back at Eagle River Speedway in Eagle River, Wisconsin. I field inquiries often from drivers to the south as to divisions and start times. We start racing on Tuesday nights at 7:30 p.m. the draw cutoff is 6:45 p.m. Hot laps shortly after 7 p.m.

This Saturday will also mark Round 2 of the TUNDRA super late model series appearance at the Bev Aschenbrenner Memorial race at Marshfield Motor Speedway. Qualifying gets underway at 5:45 p.m. with the first green flag set to fly on the paved half-mile at 7 p.m.

Whatever you do this weekend – get out to a short track (be it dirt or paved) IN PERSON. NOTHING beats actually being there.
